Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is made up of professional staff and dedicated volunteers from all ages and backgrounds. Their common link is a desire to work as part of a team that gives back to the community they live in. Approximately 5,000 volunteers from all ages, professions and backgrounds serve in both operational and administrative roles across the state. Every one of our volunt

eers receives comprehensive training to enable them to respond to emergencies. From road rescue and flood response to community events and logistics, volunteers continually develop and update their skills through the various courses and training programs provided by VICSES. VICSES volunteers are supported by approximately 175 full-time staff based in the organisation’s offices across Victoria, and at the Victorian Head Office in Sturt Street, Southbank. The roles and responsibilities of VICSES staff members are backed up by a wealth of knowledge and experience in emergency management, education and response

Be safe out there this weekend!

Winter has arrived in Victoria, which means shorter days, wet roads and mysteriously fewer Melbourne supporters at the MCG.

If you’re heading away this King’s Birthday long weekend, take extra care behind the wheel.

Changing road conditions can catch drivers out quickly - slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, avoid distractions and never drive impaired.

And if you’re heading to the snow, make sure you’re carrying and fitting wheel chains when required.

⚠️ AusAlert National Test⚠️

Australia's new emergency warning system, AusAlert, will be put to the test on Monday 27 July.

At around 2:00pm AEST, compatible mobile or other devices will receive a single critical AusAlert test. Devices will vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for approximately 10 seconds.

This is only a test, and no action is required.

The nationwide test is designed to ensure the system is ready to deliver important emergency warnings to communities during disasters and other significant emergencies.

If receiving an alert could affect your safety or wellbeing, visit https://www.ausalert.gov.au/alerts-explained/national-test to find out how to manage these alerts on your device.

Please share this information with family, friends and neighbours so everyone knows what to expect on the day.

There maybe a familiar face here (or two)!

Over the weekend we celebrated something truly extraordinary — over 400 years of combined volunteer service for the Wimmera region 🎉

From responding to floods 🌧️, storms 🌪️, and road accidents, to supporting our partner agencies when our community needs it most, our volunteers show up with courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment.

The awards ceremony honoured the people who give their time, skills, and heart to keep others safe. Their dedication doesn’t just strengthen our organisation — it strengthens our entire community.

A huge congratulations to all award recipients 🏆 and a heartfelt thank you to every volunteer who continues to make a real difference.

• SES Dimboola Unit and SES Nhill Unit - Wimmera Bakery Dimboola & Nhill

• SES Edenhope Unit - Edenhope Dine Inn

• SES St Arnaud Unit - Six2Six

• SES Kaniva Unit - The Windmill Cafe, Kaniva

If you grab a cuppa this week drop us a pic of where you landed with yours and the pic with the most likes will be our Facebook banner for the month of June and the profile picture of the Unit you supported.

‼️ CATASTROPHIC FIRE DANGER RATING FOR THE WIMMERA REGION, FRIDAY 9 JANUARY ‼️

A catastrophic fire danger rating has been issued for tomorrow, Friday 9 January.

What does it mean?

If a fire starts and takes hold, lives are likely to be lost.

These are the most dangerous conditions for a fire.

What should I do?

For your survival, leave bushfire risk areas.

Your life may depend on the decisions you make, even before there is a fire.

For your survival, do not be in bushfire risk areas.

Stay safe by going to a safer location early in the morning or the night before.

Homes cannot withstand fires in these conditions. You may not be able to leave and help may not be available.

💚 🚒 A big thank you to all our fire crews on standby and out fighting bushfires across the state.

Do your bit to support them - don’t do anything that carries a risk of starting a fire, and give a wave or say thanks if you see a firey. Showing respect and our appreciation for their work is the least we can do. 💐

For updates on current conditions and fires, check the VicEmergency app, or go to https://emergency.vic.gov.au/respond/

Stay safe! 💐

🚒🚒🚨🚨 Please be smart and safe! 🚨🚨🚒🚒

A Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating has been currently forecast for Friday 9 January 2026 in the Northern Country, North Central and Wimmera districts. A Catastrophic rating signals the worst possible conditions for grass and bushfires. For your survival, leave bushfire risk areas - if a fire starts and takes hold, lives are likely to be lost.

An Extreme Fire Danger Rating has also been forecast for the remainder of the state. Take action now to protect your life and property.

Stay up to date with warnings and incidents via VicEmergency: www.emergency.vic.gov.au

Fire Danger Ratings are forecast using Bureau of Meteorology data up to four days in advance, but can change on the day. Therefore, it is important to check the Fire Danger Rating for your area every day and know which rating is your trigger to act.
