Five fellow film fans decided to form the Mary Valley Film Society Queensland, only a few months ago in December 2022, becoming just another of hundreds of similar film societies across Australia. Our difference from some others is that we based ours on a successful model in Northern NSW which set itself up as a vehicle for screening dozens of great unknown movies made every year from around 1000

feature movies made each year from the start of talkies in 1929 to 2000 when hire costs became for film socs became prohibitive. The difference is we wanted the screenings to be free, and to offer community based organisations in our Mary Valley the opportunity each month to give a short 10 talk and Q&A about what they were up to, in a fun, entertaining area, rather then a meeting or a working bee.

MVFS February 8th 2026 FREE movie "GIGI". This 1958 musical, based on a 1944 novella by Colette, is set in Paris in 1900. It won 9 Oscars including best picture, cinematography, costumes & musical score.
