Goldfields Aboriginal Community Services

Goldfields Aboriginal Community Services Goldfields Aboriginal Ranger Team and Community Services Goldfields Aboriginal Community Services in 2019 went through a significant organisational change.

The entity was previously known as Goldfields Land and Sea Council. We now want to rebuild a new community focussed organisation expanding our services through our partnership with ABC Foundation to look at On-Country Community Services in both Care and Education. We have spent time replanning and regrouping and we are excited to be in the position to create local Aboriginal community services in

Goldfields region. There is currently no leading ACCO in the Goldfields offering community services. We want to start with a focus on social participation services and early education services building on our existing relationships and current Ranger funding.

Every young person deserves the opportunity to grow up feeling safe, strong, connected, and proud of who they are.

Through the partnership between GACS and Hope Community Services, our Youth Coordinator, Stephen Morrison, works alongside young people, families, and community to create culturally safe spaces where conversations about respect, healthy relationships, leadership, and wellbeing can thrive.

Our work extends beyond youth engagement. We are proud to work alongside NTP on the Women's Bush Trips, while the GACS Men's team provides ongoing support for the Hope Community Services Men's Bush Trips. These experiences on Country strengthen cultural identity, connection, healing, and community, creating opportunities for learning, sharing, and positive change.

Our Youth Bush Trips and community engagement activities are guided by a commitment to addressing Aboriginal family, domestic, and sexual violence in ways that are community-led and culturally grounded. Inspired by the Dream With Us framework, we recognise that lasting change comes through healing, accountability, behaviour change, and empowering communities to lead the solutions that work for them.

The photos shared capture just some of the many moments where young people have come together to connect with culture, build confidence, develop leadership skills, and have honest conversations about creating safer, stronger futures.

We also look forward to continuing these important conversations through our upcoming Cyberbullying and Healthy Relationships Workshop, helping equip young people with the knowledge and confidence to build respectful, healthy connections both online and offline.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to support this work - our partners, Elders, facilitators, families, and especially the incredible young people who inspire us every day. Together, we are building stronger communities for future generations.

As we build toward on 31 July, we shine a light on the extraordinary men and women who protect our planetโ€™s most precious places.

Rangers are the guardians of biodiversity. They patrol protected areas, prevent poaching, combat wildlife crime, manage fires, monitor ecosystems, support communities, and stand on the front line of conservation every single day.

Their work is vital - but it is also dangerous. Rangers often operate in remote and challenging environments, facing threats from armed poachers, extreme weather, wildfires, dangerous wildlife, and difficult terrain. Many work with limited resources, yet continue to serve with courage and dedication.

Without rangers, the world would look very different. Wildlife populations would decline, habitats would be degraded, ecosystems would become more vulnerable, and future generations would lose irreplaceable natural heritage. Rangers are not only protecting animals and landscapes; they are safeguarding clean water, healthy ecosystems, climate resilience, and the balance of nature on which we all depend.

This World Ranger Day, we honour their bravery, recognise the risks they take, and celebrate the impact they make.

We stand with the worldโ€™s rangers.

A review of the harvest/take limits for wild sandalwood is underway to help ensure its protection, conservation and ecologically sustainable use into the future.

DBCA welcomes feedback from Aboriginal people with a connection to sandalwood, as well as researchers, landholders, community members and anyone with an interest in conservation.

You are encouraged to review the draft report and share your views. Your feedback will help inform future decisions about the management of one of Western Australia's iconic native species.
