This is our final wrap-up for Light Up Kalbar, with a focus on one of its most popular activities – the Christmas tractor parade.

The popular new route brought excitement and colour to downtown Edward Street. Young and old alike loved seeing the parade of Christmas-lit modern and vintage tractors, topped and tailed with fire engines. Even Santa made a surprise reappearance at the end of the parade in a police ATV with SC Phil Ortlipp.

Many thanks to the Milbong and District Classic Tractor Club and all tractors who came out on the night and brought such joy to the community. And congratulations to David Higgs who won Best Dressed Tractor, securing the magnificent trophy (complete with lights!).

The feedback has been outstanding. Thank you so much to our wonderful community for turning out in record numbers.

The lights truly did come alive in ‘25.

Have you wondered how Light Up Kalbar – one of our biggest free community events – was funded?

🌟 The Kalbar Progress Association (KPA) organised and underwrote the event, and was a major financial sponsor.
🌟 Financial sponsors and donations contributed valuable dollars to help meet expenses such as live bands, street entertainers and the fireworks. Thank you KPA, Community Bank Kalbar & District, Ray White Rural Boonah-Kalbar, Elders, Kalfresh Vegetables, The Butcher Co Kalbar, Royal Hotel Kalbar., Jon Krause, Nature’s Kids Childcare Centre, and Kalbar Medical Centre.
🌟 In-kind support provided services that would otherwise have blown the budget! Thank you Kalbar Sunflowers, Queensland Police Service, Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), Hannah Photography, Boonah & Kalbar Mitre 10, Scenic Rim Regional Council and On Point Media Solutions.
🌟 Raffle prize donors donated gifts and vouchers worth in excess of $2,500, including a $250 voucher from Butterfly Blue Massage & Natural Therapies! Tickets sold on the night raised valuable funds to contribute towards the cost of Light Up Kalbar. Thank you to all those local business featured on a board currently displayed outside the School of Arts.
🌟 The proceeds from the sale of every light-up toy helped towards keeping this popular community event viable.
🌟 External food vendors paid a fee to have a site at the event.
🌟 The organisers were all volunteers and administration costs were kept to an absolute minimum of essentials such as promotional materials, insurance, and road closure fees.

Hannah Photography was one of our largest in-kind sponsors, generously donating her valuable time to photograph the event. Please enjoy a selection of her beautiful photographs. Thank you, Hannah, and everyone who contributed to the success of Light Up Kalbar.

Thank you to everyone who entered the inaugural Kalbar Christmas Lights Competition organised by the KPA (Kalbar Progress Association Inc.). We’re pleased to announce the winners. Please note only properties for which entry forms were submitted could be judged.

🍺 The volunteers have been hard at it again this morning, preparing for Light Up Kalbar. Well, the girls have. Guess where we found the boys! The photo says it all 😂

In all seriousness, everyone’s working hard on a hot day, so it was a well-deserved break in the lovely cool of Royal Hotel Kalbar., one of our fabulous sponsors.

We’re so excited to welcome you along later today. Please allow time for parking in the surrounding streets and be prepared for a wee walk – we promise it will be worth it. The usual area for parking in the showgrounds is a firework exclusion zone.

🎄 Today’s the day, Kalbar! Are you ready? It all kicks off at 5.30pm.

🎅🏻 We’ve had confirmation Santa’s left the North Pole, having put Kalbar, Australia into his special GPS. He’s due to arrive in Edward Street at 6.30pm, with lots of candy canes for his visitors.

🚜 Tractors will be lined up and ready to parade at 7pm. Who will win the coveted Best Dressed Tractor Award? And who has won the Kalbar Christmas Lights Competition?

💡 Remember to wear some lights yourself. Last year it was lovely to see strollers and even a dog decorated! Light-up toys will be for sale at the KPA marquee. And don’t forget to buy some raffle tickets for a chance to win a wheelbarrow piled high with gifts and vouchers from all our wonderful local businesses. The winner doesn’t need to be present when it’s drawn.

🌟 The tree will be lit at 7.30pm and fireworks start at 7.45pm.

Volunteers have been hard at work today getting prelim work done for tomorrow. With only one more sleep to go, here are some quick courtesy reminders for Light Up Kalbar:

⛔️ Edward Street will be closed between George and Ann Streets from mid-afternoon to 9pm.
⏰ The event starts at 5.30pm and ends at 8pm.
🌭 Street food vans will augment our local favourite eateries.
🎶 Live music: Griffin County (outside The Royal Hotel), Salvos Band (outside Fassifern Hair and Beauty), and the Kalbar State School choir.
🎈Free face painting, balloon art and the ever-popular bubble lady.
💡 Don’t forget to wear lights to help Light Up Kalbar!
🎅🏻 Santa arrives 6.30pm.
🚜 Tractors set off down George Street at 7pm and into Edward Street.
✨ Fireworks scheduled for 7.45pm.

❤️ It’s International Volunteer Day, so today we’d like to thank all those supporting Light Up Kalbar in many different ways.

The event simply couldn’t happen without folk putting up their hands, saying ‘we’ll help’. Whether it’s the team who put the event together, helping hands on the day, community groups and services lending their support (especially 🚑🚒🚓), participants in the lights parade (🚜), and even 🎅🏻 adding us to his busy schedule, we acknowledge and thank you all.

❤️ And to all volunteers who support the Kalbar community throughout the year in a myriad ways and for a variety of causes and groups – thank you!

🎉 Are you ready to buy tickets in the monster Light Up Kalbar raffle, on sale from 5.30pm on Saturday?

🎈 One lucky person will win a Boonah & Kalbar Mitre 10 wheelbarrow filled with over $2000 worth of prizes, thanks to our generous local supporters. Tickets are one for $5 or five for $20 (cash or card). Look out for the KPA marquee in front of the police house.

🎁 Check out the list of all the fabulous items that will be in the wheelbarrow. We encourage you to thank these local donors either in the comments or when you’re next in town. They are called on so often to support local causes and we (and other community organisations) greatly appreciate their generosity in stepping up time and again. All proceeds from this raffle will help fund Light Up Kalbar – a free community event.

⛔️ Santa’s asked us to remind our community that Edward Street will be closed on Saturday, between George and Ann Streets, from mid-afternoon to 9pm for Light Up Kalbar.

⛔️ With so many excited children around, plus entertainers, food vans and Christmas-lit tractors, we want to keep everyone safe. All your favourite food venues on Edward Street – Royal Hotel Kalbar., 2m8’s BBQ, Kalbar Country Bakehouse, Lovett at Kalbar and SPAR Express – will be open for Light Up and look forward to your continued custom.
