Fire Permit suspension has been extended

30/09/2025

PERMIT PAUSE DATES UPDATED 04/10/25

The suspension has now been updated to now conclude on midnight Thursday 9th of October 2025.

🔥ALTONS DOWNS MEDIA RELEASE🔥

The District Chief Fire Warden, under section 131 and section 145l(2)(c)(i) of the Fire Services Act 1990, in consultation with the a/Assistant Chief Officer, Will be suspending all currently issued fire permits (Permits to Light Fire) for the following period in the Rockhampton and Livingstone local government areas:

Midnight Tuesday 30th of September 2025 up to and including midnight on Sunday 05th of October 2025.

The current BOM forecast of high and extreme fire danger ratings, with low humidity over the coming days has necessitated this decision.

đźš’WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?đźš’

This means if you have a permit to light fire that has been issued to you by your local fire warden it has been suspended for the above dates and you CANNOT light.
If you have a burn stack/pile that is NOT covered by the permit to light fire system (for example a pile that is 2x2x2m in any direct or smaller) you may still light but with EXTREME caution.

We personally ask all landholders to think twice over the next few days as there will be a high/extreme fire danger rating and even a small spark can spark a much larger fire that may be hard to contain.

We also ask to consider postponing any hot related work, eg: grinding, slashing, welding and don't park vehicles over long grass as it may ignite.

🤔REMEMBER: If you do spot any smoke or fire we always recommend calling 000, do not call your fire warden or any brigade member, all calls get paged to us from Firecom via 000 calls.
We would much prefer to be called to a false alarm then to let a fire get away because it was not called in.

If you have any questions or are unsure it is best to shoot us a message and we will be more than happy to assist.

Finally we would like to thank all volunteers and members of the region as they have been battling a blaze in Mt Morgan over the last week. Stay safe and thank you.

🔥 Honoring a Legend: Remembering Ken Rowlands 🔥

Yesterday, we gathered to pay tribute to a remarkable soul who served our community with unwavering dedication and courage for over 50 years. Ken Rowlands, a cherished member of the Kalapa Rural Fire Brigade, has left an indelible mark on our hearts and the landscape of our firefighting family.

Ken's journey with us began in 1970, a pivotal year when he embraced the call to protect and serve. For over five decades, his commitment never wavered, his resolve never faltered. Through thick and thin, Ken stood as a pillar of strength, embodying the very essence of bravery and selflessness.

Joined by his beloved family members, Kathy and Catherine, we are deeply honored to unveil a precious memento of Ken's extraordinary life—a photograph capturing his spirit, dedication, and camaraderie.

Though Ken may no longer walk among us, his legacy burns brightly in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest peacefully, Ken Rowlands. Your flame will forever guide us.
