Please help us fight to protect our water, our forests, our wildlife and our future.

We are sick of the destruction, the risk to our drinking water, the toxic waste, the lies and deceit, the arrogance and the blatant disrespect.

PLEASE STAND WITH US and keep talking until EVERYONE knows about this 🙏🙏🙏

⛔️ Alcoa LIED in their adverts and tried to deceive us all. Then when found out, there’s no apology, just weasel words about “definitions” that seem to drip with arrogance and contempt for our community concerns.

⛔️ Never forget that Alcoa illegally and secretly built a pipeline to transport PFAS (toxic forever chemicals) over one of our drinking water dams, showing blatant DISRESPECT for our rules and processes that apply to everyone else. Can we ever trust them again??

⛔️ Water Corp have said that contamination of a drinking water dam is certain if Alcoa continues. Bird Life Western Australia have said our precious black cockatoos will become extinct 🤯🤯🤯

How many more warnings do we need? Do we wait for a CATASTROPHE before enough is enough??

Stand with us because this is only the beginning 💙✊🌊

These beautiful baby quokkas live deep in the jarrah forest of the Mundaring Weir catchment ❤️

They are at risk from mining and exploration in the forests that surround their homes, including around Serpentine and Jarrahdale 💔💔

Quokkas are a threatened species whose numbers have dramatically declined due, in part, to land clearing, foxes and bushfires. It is a miracle these little creatures have survived so far.

Please help protect them by adding your voice to the growing community opposition against Alcoa’s expansion into the world’s only jarrah forests 🙏🙏

⛔️How much forest does Alcoa block access to?⛔️

The red and blue areas on this map show the forest that is gated off by Alcoa to stop community access. Source: Alcoa

The area is similar size to Greater Perth. It is MASSIVE.

And now Alcoa want to expand into another drinking water catchment around Mundaring Weir in the Perth Hills 😢😢😢

“It has been that way for so long that we have grown accustomed to it, but stepping back, it is EXTRAORDINARY that any company has the right to bar access to so much forest right next to a city of 2.3 million people.”

Alcoa IS destroying the world’s only jarrah forest. 💔💔💔

“ Why do I say destroyed, not mined or cleared?…. given that Alcoa removes every living thing and the top several metres of the earth, it is a fair term.”

Strip mining IS destroying the world’s only jarrah forest. It is VERY DIFFERENT to forestry and unlike any other industry.

Over 280 km2 of our forest has been cleared by Alcoa, impacting over 910 km2 of forest - an area visible from space to create the THIRD LARGEST mine in the world! This is mind blowing!!! 🤯🤯🤯

Despite 60 years of operation and research by Alcoa, NO rehabilitated areas have been accepted back by the WA Government as 'restored’ ❌❌❌

Remember this when you see one of Alcoas many adverts on TV, radio and in newspapers that try to paint a very different picture 🧐🧐🧐

We URGENTLY need to rethink the scale of mining in our forests before it is too late. Starting with no more mining in drinking water catchments. 🚱🚱🚱

We need as many people as possible to complete the survey and tell the EPA what they think about this 🙏🙏🙏: https://tinyurl.com/54d2hynf

‼️ ATTENTION PERTH PEOPLE ‼️

⛔️ Alcoa Expansion planned for Mundaring Weir drinking water catchment in the Perth Hills ⛔️

Alcoa have released their 2023-2027 plans for mining in the Darling Range.

Buried within is a MASSIVE expansion of Alcoa’s operations into the Mandoon Bilya - Helena River catchment that feeds Mundaring Weir and our drinking water supply. Check our map to see what is being proposed and where 👀👀👀

🙏🙏🙏 PLEASE ACT NOW:

✅ Complete a short survey before 21 August 2025 to tell the EPA what you think about Alcoa’s plans: https://tinyurl.com/54d2hynf

✅ Share this post, tag your friends and ask them to complete the survey

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT??

Public access is restricted to most of the catchment - hiking and camping are banned and we are not even allowed to collect water samples for our healthy rivers program from some areas🚷🚳🚱

Yet Alcoa wants to clear parts of Mundaring State Forest, build haulage roads and undertake exploration drilling in preparation for potential future mining. How can be less risky than hiking and camping?? 🤯🤯🤯

Have you seen what Alcoa has done around Serpentine Dam drinking water catchment?? Take a drive out to the hills and see for yourself.

Alcoa’s mining lease over the ENTIRE Darling Range was established decades ago when the world was a very different place. Our forests are now under massive pressure that we couldn’t have foreseen back then - drying climate, low rainfall, dieback, PSHB etc. 💔💔💔

We urgently need to RETHINK the scale of mining in our south west forests before it’s too late!!

Starting with: NO MORE MINING IN OUR DRINKING WATER CATCHMENTS!! 🚱🚱🚱

❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌

This is some of the last undisturbed forest of the Darling Range, the WORLD’S ONLY JARRAH FOREST, and where we recently discovered a new population of mainland quokkas💔💔💔

We believe Alcoa’s plans could cause:

⛔️ Devastating and irreversible damage to the ecological and cultural values of the Perth Hills

⛔️ Unacceptable risks to our drinking water supply

⛔️ Loss of social and recreational values that will affect future generations long after we are gone

Your opinion might be different and that’s OK – it is SO important that everyone has their say on something that will impact their future before it is too late…..
