Joskeleigh Community Association Joskeleigh Community Association and Joskeleigh South Sea Islander Museum We are here to ensure the history of our people is never lost.

The Joskeleigh Community Association established the Joskeleigh South Sea Islander Museum to promote the history of South Sea Islander people blackbirded to Queensland in the 1860's right through to the early 1900's. The introduction of the White Australia Policy ceased the black labour slave trade and many Islanders were then forced back to the islands. Of those that were allowed to stay, they no

longer had a home anywhere, no jobs and they made their new home in Joskeleigh. The museum is run by volunteers and open by appointment only at this time.

✨ Exciting News for Joskeleigh! ✨

Today we gather as part of celebrating 25 years since the Queensland Government signed the Recognition Statement formally acknowledging Australian South Sea Islanders as a distinct cultural group and their contributions to Queensland on 7th September 2000. 🌺

To mark this historic moment, Pastor Rob Mann and Aunty Betty Mae have brought us all together for our first ever Gospel Concert right here in Joskeleigh!** 🎶

Beautiful voices, uplifting music – and everyone is welcome to join us. 🙏🏾❤️

Let’s come together as a community for a day of joy, praise, and fellowship – honouring our past and celebrating the future.
