Dear member,
this is our chance to have an input in an aged facility for our snowy river community.
The council invites all those in the community who care about the future of the Berridale hostel to join them at the hostel site on the Saturday the 13that 7 Jindalee street Berridale, 2- 3pm.
The hostel will be open for inspection and afterwards for discussions about the future of the Berridale hostel.
The only way we are going to support our older family members and long term residents to stay in our community is to form a united front in this matter.
Please come along with your thoughts and ideas.

Last Wednesday Southern Area health meeting at Health One Jindabyne.
Ian Cambell director of communications Southern area health contacted our shire council to advices them on health and service needs of the snowy Monaro Shire. Seeing a need to consult with each community councillor Narelle Davis contacted Nick Elliot and Reuben Rose about facilitate a community group meeting in Jindabyne. Held on Wednesday in the Health One premisses with invitations to community groups to attend. There were two ladies from Area Health and a small group of locals attending. From Jindabyne Community Association; Toni Clarke and Bill Euston attended. The objective to help guide what health and hospital services are needed over the next 5 to 10 years.
Subjects arising from the consultations: Lack of communications between Council, NSW Health and the broader community. General lack of health services and underutilization of Health One’s facilities. Inaccurate statistics and statements on Jindabyne: Jindabyne is no longer a one season only economy, increase in permanent population, increase in senior residence. All these statistics make a great deal of difference in heath requirements and strain on the health services existing in our area. One of these services in question is the inadequate ambulance services. Also mentioned was the need for beds for emergency overnight observation. Positive comments were made about Jindabyne’s two GP surgeries and the State governments funded transport service for medical appointments. This service already has two volunteer drivers.
The subject came up about the closure of the hostel in Berridale and Toni asked about the adjacent land. It appears the land is still part of community land. Toni put forward the suggestion that the land could be a senior’s village with individuals investing. With the council still looking at options for the hostel building it is time for the community to come forward with ideas. Toni said there is a need for the whole community to come together and that Jindabyne Community Association would be more than happy to work alongside the Berridale group to put up a proposal. We have seen, with community backing Bombala, has been able to getting their hostel running again.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jindabyne Community Association Supports Motion for Demerger Poll

The Jindabyne Community Association (JCA) expresses its support for Councillor Stewart’s initiative to propose a motion at the upcoming Council general meeting. This motion seeks to approve a poll to be held simultaneously with the next local elections, aiming to explore the possibility of demerging the current formal council areas of Bombala, Cooma Monaro, and Snowy River Shire.

The JCA, which recently merged with the Jindabyne Action Group, stands as one of the few grassroots organisations dedicated to advocating for the enhancement and development of the entire Jindabyne community. The association’s executive committee comprises influential community leaders, including representatives from local churches, former councillors, and members of the Jindabyne Chamber of Commerce.

In July a meeting was held in an attempt to explain services such as My Aged Care (MAG) and other related issues to seniors in our community. This meeting was initiated by councillors Narelle Davis and Nick Elliott. This first meeting was very well attended, the follow-up meeting, in August, however was not. Nick Elliott has suggested that a survey of those over 65 would give a better picture of the need in Jindabyne for such services.

Of course, you are aware that there is a general government census which happens every five years. Unfortunately, this happens in August. Given that services such as MAG are based on these census it is essential to get this right. Does the government survey give an accurate picture of a place such as Jindabyne?

We are not asking for details just if you fit this age group and if your preference would be to stay in Jindabyne as you grow older. If you wish to make a comment, please do so it can only help to fill in the picture for our politicians. One other request is that you tell us of any other person you know over 65 that has left Jindabyne in recent years due to lack of support.

If you have already been surveyed by Sally Weston there is no need to reply to this message.

Jindabyne Community Association and the Jindabyne Action Group have merged into one group. This group will focus on bringing issues to SMRC for action and will take up the mantel left behind by the Snowy Monaro Rate Payers and Residents Association. Where appropriate, this group will advocate directly with State and or Federal members.

After a long interval, a new committee has been formed to merge JINDABYNE ACTION GROUP with JINDABYNE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION.
The new committee with ex Mayor/ Councillor, Peter Beer, as chair, Toni Clarke as secretary and Olivier Kapetanakos as treasurer, will steer the committee for this term.

They are hoping to generate more support from all social groups especially younger members of the community.

The aim of the group will be to advocate for Jindabyne and surrounding villages. For too long Jindabyne, Berridale and Dalgety have felt neglected even though there has been substantial housing development in these villages.

Jindabyne has had the SAP team proposing improvements for our area only to see after 7 years many of these plans being ditched. The Clay Pit car park, we were told will go ahead. The majority of the SAP plans, we are also told, will not be completed due to lack of funds. One has to ask how much of the States budget went on planning.

There is still much to address: what is going to happen to the school site, we have seen few upgrades to the town…. the list goes on!

We have formed this group to take your concerns to council, state or federal governments as needed. What is needed is the towns support.

We will hold regular meetings at a venue to be announced.
We want to see other social groups join us.
So, don’t sit at home or stand around the bar or coffee shop complaining….
SUPPORT US AND YOUR TOWN TO MAKE THESE CHANGES NOW AND FOR THE FUUTURE!
