UPDATE:

Landcare SJ staff and the new Enviro officer at Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale visited the West Korrininjal and discovered the striking qualities, and complex challenges this location offers. Pretty soon after their visit, and recognising the pervasiveness of the feral olives, they sent a chap out who has w**d sprayed the lowest section. Applications for funding to better manage the reserve have been made too!

Jayne is in the Korrininjal West often pulling w**ds such as Patterson's Curse and Cotton Bush. There's a need for some help with tools to trim the bush overhanging pathways, and to keep on at those feral olives where possible. If anyone would like a little handyman job, we've a broken bridge across a winter creek that's become a hazard. It's small and light enough that it could be lifted out and disposed of as kindling.

I guess we need a busy bee 🐝

It's been a few years since locals gathered for a morning to brush-cut and trim. If we organise a Saturday morning, would anyone be able to join, even for just half an hour?

Jayne will bring her Ryobi battery trimming tools, and can share a brush-cutter, ATV and 🍩 if you like?! Anything to slash or cut that you own would be of great benefit. Many hands can clear the path and remove the busted bridge. Our gift to ourselves and the local wildlife ❣️

The little winter soak and the water tank ready to support the fire crews in summer.

We hope you're tanks are filling well this winter, and your winter creeks have sprung to life as they pour down into the Korrininjal and Medulla brooks! 🌧️

We lost a few maturer species this past couple of years. Summer has been harder than usual.

If you're in there and you see a plant hasn't survived, feel free to pull the tree guard out and the stakes. They could be reused, you're welcome to them ♻️

You can see those darned olive escapees are still flourishing, drowning out the indigenous plants and ruining the environment there. You can pull the seedlings that are spreading if you spot any when you visit. Meanwhile we appreciate any volunteer efforts to wander in with a tool to massacre the larger bushes (please!). A dab of poison on the stump should help minimise their return. Thank you!

Does anyone know what the flowered plans with mint-like leaves is? I'm guessing w**d, but we live in hope it's native 🀞🌸πŸͺ“

Checking where the bridge was replaced last year by volunteers from Fairbridge College . Further upstream we've some repairs to do. One bridge has fallen apart and is likely dangerous if the user isn't paying attention. If anyone has a little time and skill, please let us know πŸ§‘β€πŸ”§πŸͺš

Watercourses like this one are smaller than previous years. There's a lot going on "upstream" and less rainfall than we're used to in Korrininjal.

If you're upstream, please remember how your activity impacts the nature reserve. Pulled a lot of rubbish such as lolly and crisp wrappers out of the watercourses πŸ«€πŸ¬πŸ§ƒ

Assessing the Korrininjal West after 6 years of volunteers planting and attempting to manage w**ds.

Of hundred planted, those that are thriving are beautiful. It's a good lesson in what the soil and the landscape can support.

Tiny seedlings planted within the past 10 years are now metres tall saplings. This area will one day provide stability to groundwater, habitat for wildlife, and food for the endangered cockatoos.
