πŸ€πŸ’™ Minjilang, you did it again! πŸ’™πŸ€

This week our SEWB and Tackling Indigenous Smoking teams teamed up with the Hoops 4 Health AUS crew for an awesome day of basketball, wellbeing and community connection on Country.

πŸ“š The day kicked off at Mamaruni School, where students took part in wellbeing activities before hitting the court to sharpen their basketball skills.

πŸ”₯ Then it was game time! The community courts came alive with hoops, music, a BBQ and plenty of laughs as young people, families and community members joined in the fun.

πŸ‘ Huge shoutout to:
πŸ€ Hoops4Health coaches Damien and Chris
πŸŽ“ Mamaruni School
πŸ₯ Minjilang Clinic
πŸ”₯ West Arnhem Regional Council
πŸ’™ And the incredible Minjilang community

⭐ Most importantly, a massive shout out to the young people who participated. Your energy, sportsmanship and talent had everyone talking.

πŸ€ Safe to say there is no shortage of basketball talent in Minjilang! πŸ“ Next stop: Warruwi.

πŸ“Έ Check out some of our favourite moments from the day below!

πŸ€βœˆοΈ Hoops 4 Health is heading back to Minjilang today!

Our team are on the way, with Lynda (SEWB Coordinator), Kia (TIS Officer) and the Hoops 4 Health crew travelling to Minjilang from Darwin to deliver another great community event.

These events are about much more than basketball. They create opportunities for connection, positive conversations, health promotion, social and emotional wellbeing, and plenty of fun for young people and families.

A big thank you to our partners at Hoops 4 Health for continuing to support communities across West Arnhem through culturally safe, trauma-informed programs.

We look forward to sharing some photos and highlights from the afternoon. Safe travels to the team and have a fantastic event, Minjilang! πŸ€πŸŒ΄πŸ™ŒπŸ½

One week ago, the Jabiru community came together to celebrate the official opening of the Jabiru Health Centre. As we reflect on the day, we are filled with pride, gratitude and optimism for the future.

What made the celebration so special wasn't the marquees, the music or the speeches β€” it was the people.

Seeing community members, Elders, Traditional Owners, families, staff, partners and stakeholders come together to celebrate this important milestone reminded us why community-controlled healthcare matters.

On behalf of the Red Lily Health Board, thank you to everyone who attended, supported and contributed to making the day such a success.

We would like to extend a special thank you to:

🎀 Our wonderful MCs, Kia and Singita, who brought warmth, energy and laughter to the day.
πŸ–€ Shanice Mudjandi and Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation for the Welcome to Country.
πŸ›οΈ Minister Steve Edgington and Member for Arafura MLA Manuel Brown for joining us to mark this important occasion.
🀝 Red Lily Health partners, stakeholders and friends for travelling or making the time to help us celebrate this special day.
πŸŽ‰ West Arnhem Regional Council, Hoops4Health, Hyper the Clown, B2M, DJ Dhee Man and Stan Man for helping create a vibrant and family-friendly celebration.
🌭 CDU Medical students and volunteers who generously gave their time and support to host stalls, be part of the activities and provide food for the event.
🌿 Our Board of Directors for their vision and leadership in guiding community-controlled healthcare in West Arnhem.
❀️ Our Red Lily team, whose months of planning, coordination and hard work brought the event to life.

Most importantly, thank you to the Jabiru community. This Health Centre belongs to community and seeing so many people come together to celebrate its opening was truly something special.

The opening of the Jabiru Health Centre marks another important step in our journey to deliver culturally safe, accessible and community-led healthcare closer to home.

Together, we are building a healthier future for West Arnhem.

🚭 Today is World No To***co Day 🚭

We're taking the opportunity to revisit No Bakki β€” a music video created by young people in Gunbalanya in partnership with the Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) team.

🎡Through music, dance and culture, local young people share an important message: No Bakki. No Smoking. Strong Body. πŸ’ͺ🏾

This project celebrates the creativity, talent and leadership of our young people while promoting healthy choices for our families and communities.

Take a few minutes to watch the video again and help spread the message. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNyOGoPlWfU

🚨 Protect Our Mob

We’re seeing cases of Diphtheria within the community, so now is a good time to check in and look after each other.

Diphtheria can spread through coughing, sneezing and touching, but there are ways we can help keep our mob safe! 🫢🏾

βœ… Keep up to date with vaccinations
βœ… Keep an eye out for a sore throat, fever, trouble swallowing or sores on your skin
βœ… If you’re feeling unwell, stay home from work/school and get checked early by the clinic mob

Looking after our elders, kids and community starts with all of us.

Got questions or unsure if you or your family need a check-up? Reach out to your local Clinic mob they are there to help πŸ’™

Today we acknowledge National Sorry Day β€” a day to reflect, remember and recognise the ongoing impacts of the Stolen Generations on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families and communities.

It is a time to honour strength, resilience and healing, and to acknowledge the importance of listening, learning and walking together with understanding and respect.

At Red Lily, we recognise the importance of connection to culture, family and community and remain committed to supporting stronger futures together. β€οΈπŸ–€πŸ’›
