The North Ipswich Free Shop exists because ordinary people refused to look away while others struggled.

No funding. No corporation behind it. Just community.

A INCREDIBLE volunteer has now stepped up and created an Instagram page to help document the project, share updates, show the reality of mutual aid, and help protect and grow NIFS through visibility and community support.

If you believe communities should help each other…
If you believe nobody should go hungry while food is wasted…
If you believe mutual aid matters…

Share the Dignity has dropped off 4 bags of pads and tampons. If you're in need or would like a few months of dignity items (that should be FREE for anyone) please pop in today and ring the doorbell. We are across the road from River 94.9

Israel just passed death sentence to Palestinians.
Not Israelis for the exact same crime.
It is not antisemitic to be against Israel Apartheid.
Israel has begun hanging and shooting Palestinians in jail, including those in "admin hold" (no charges, no court, no justice)

It is illegal to say "from the river to the s3a" in some states, but no other saying, threat, or slogan.

We are in a authoritarianism place. Moving to facism.
Community comes from the working class coming together and collective action.

If everyone went on strike the same day and withheld labor, we would be listened to, like history.
Talk to your unions and plan something.

Today we planted 4 fruit trees at the North Ipswich Free Shop.

This is for now, and for later. For anyone who needs food. For kids walking past. For the future of this space.
Because fruit trees should be everywhere working-class people live; not hidden behind fences, but shared, watered, protected and enjoyed by the community.

Please help us look after them.
Water them if the soil is dry.
Respect them while they establish.
And when they fruit, share them.

This is slow, practical resistance.
A long-term commitment to feeding each other and building something better than scarcity.

Community care doesn’t happen once.
It has to be planted, protected and repeated.

If you’re nearby, keep an eye on them for us.

An incredible community member called David donated all of these toys today. Play and imagination is a vital part of a child’s development, and every kid around the world deserves access to joy and whimsy, free from war and bombs. As community, looking after our kids is essential.

Under United Nations policy, housing is a human right.

SUPREME COURT DECISION CONFIRMS HUMAN RIGHTS BREACH

You will have heard about the recent Supreme Court decision regarding the treatment of people sleeping rough in parks across the Moreton Bay region.

The Court found that the actions taken against people experiencing homelessness were unlawful.
For those who have been following this issue, the case looked at the use of compliance notices that forced people sleeping rough to leave public parks, sometimes within extremely short timeframes, and in some cases resulted in people losing their belongings.

The Supreme Court found several serious issues with how these actions were carried out.

The Court found that:
• Proper consideration was not given to the human rights of people sleeping rough before action was taken.

• Forcing people to leave places where they were living breached their human rights.
• Some people had their belongings destroyed without their consent, which also breached their rights.

• A one size fits all approach was used instead of considering each person’s individual circumstances.

• Some of the timeframes given to leave were unreasonable, particularly when people had nowhere else to go.
Importantly, the decision makes it clear that evicting people from public land when they have nowhere else to go is likely to breach human rights, unless there are exceptional circumstances such as immediate safety risks.

The Court also made clear that:
• Human rights must be considered for each individual case before action is taken.

• Any time given to move on must be reasonable and appropriate to the person’s situation.

• People’s property cannot simply be disposed of without their consent.

In simple terms, this decision places significant limits on how local laws can be used against people experiencing homelessness.

This is not about encouraging people to live in parks.
No one wants that.
What this decision recognises is a basic truth that those of us working on the ground see every day.
People cannot leave somewhere if there is nowhere else for them to go.

Until governments at every level address the housing crisis and provide real accommodation solutions, people experiencing homelessness will continue to exist in our community.

They are human beings.
And like every other person in Australia, their human rights must be respected.

At Nourish Street Inc we will continue to focus on what we have always done.
Supporting people without judgement.
Providing food, tents and basic essentials when there is nowhere else for people to turn.
Advocating for dignity, compassion and practical solutions.

Because homelessness is not a crime.
It is a housing crisis.

Ed Sheeran visited North Ipswich Free Shop and without hesitation, declared:
“From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs!”
“Capital is dead labour, which, vampire-like, lives only by sucking living labour.”
“The emancipation of the working classes must be conquered by the working classes themselves.”
“Between capitalist and communist society there lies the period of the revolutionary transformation of the one into the other.”

He briefly touched on surplus value, class antagonism, and the necessity of dissolving private ownership of the means of production.
