This week's meeting was a truly jam-packed one at the Ipswich Toastmasters Club! We had a full house with guests, a guest speaker, and guest judges for our club evaluation contest.

Linda Thomson made her debut as Toastmaster for the evening and kept our very busy agenda moving along smoothly.

Bill presented a truly informative and well-researched speech on the INVASION (emphasis added by Bill) of cane toads🐸 into our fair nation.

John gave a titillating and thought-provoking speech on how investing in the ASX can be more exciting than certain other similar-sounding amorous pursuits πŸ’‹.

And special thanks to Paul, our guest test speaker, for taking us on a journey through time to the key T-junctions in his life. It was a truly powerful and personal story and we were privileged to hear it.

Thanks to Jessie and Shane Browne for stepping up and taking part in our club's evaluation competition. And congratulations to Shane who will now be representing our club in the upcoming area competition!

A very special thank you to all our guest judges for evaluating our evaluators and making the evening's competition possible!

Some people take up lawn bowls. Some take up public speaking. 🎀

There is a room in Ipswich, where people practice public speaking... for fun!.... I know... crazy right?

Why would anyone, do something so crazy?

πŸ“š You keep learning! And learning is invigorating. Growth, at any age, feels great.

🀝 You give back! Forty years of working life is forty years of hard-won judgement, and there are newer members in this room who would benefit enormously from hearing it

πŸ‘ You get to mentor!! As you grow, you get to evaluate, encourage and mentor! which for a lot of our members turns out to be the most satisfying part

🏘️ And it is local. Social. Fun!

You do not need experience, just a little courage to come and visit :)

Guests attend free and are always welcome.

Another fortnight, another excellent meeting of the Ipswich Toastmasters Club!

Kerri Richards was Toastmaster for the evening and lead us all in an "enlightening" (that's another point for word of the night for me Grammarian Bill) discussion about our hobbies.

Shane Browne kicked us off with the new and challenging role of Jokemaster, starting the evening with a good laugh and a warning not to mess with dolphin trainers!

Massive kudos to new member Linda Thomson for taking on three roles in the meeting (Warm Up Master, Table Topics Master, and leading the Have You Been Paying Attention session). It's always great to see our members rise to the occasion and try new things.

Special thanks to Fred Fouad, Jessie, and Shawn for delivering three excellent and very varied prepared speeches. It was enlightening to hear about the importance of being a good mentee, why we should care about our local trees, and even to have a good laugh at an absurd tale of cross cultural confusion. We love having a wide variety of topics at every meeting!

πŸ₯‡ That's the final whistle on another cracking night at Ipswich Toastmasters! Here's the play by play. πŸ“£

πŸ… The theme for the evening was the Commonwealth Games, and our Toastmaster for the night, John Hutchins, sprinkled games trivia throughout the meeting while keeping us all on track.

πŸ“– Grammarian Linda Thomson set the challenge with her word of the day: eloquent. Final score, John Hutchins: 1, the rest of the club: 0. A humbling result for a room full of people who talk for fun!! πŸ˜…

🐘 Kerri Richards ran our warm up, a fortunate and unfortunate tale about a wild purple elephant named Pinky and a pink giraffe named Purply. Each member had 20 seconds to take the story somewhere new, so one speaker's stroke of good luck became the next speaker's disaster. The plot went to some wild and unexpected places. πŸ¦’

😈 Ben McCormick, our dear Member, Secretary & District Director!! πŸ₯΅, delivered a hilarious step-by-step guide to crushing the souls of those pesky, enthusiastic new starters at the office. Because nothing ruins a good disgruntled mood quite like someone else's optimism.

🍽️ Shane Browne, fresh out of our Speechcraft course, proved just how fast new members grow. His funny and engaging speech tackled the analytical mind's greatest nemesis: "What should we have for dinner?" Sometimes you just have to decide from the gut. πŸ˜‹

πŸ“ Bill and Shawn delivered sharp, generous evaluations that everyone in the room walked away richer for. Two very 'eloquent' reminders of how much value sits in a good evaluation.

⚑ Table Topics Master Joanne Jackson threw some sports themed curve balls, and our participants did not disappoint. Long time member Marianne showed us exactly what decades of Toastmasters experience looks like, fielding one of Joanne's curlier deliveries with an 'eloquent' response that made it look easy. 🏏

πŸ“‹ Kerri Richards was flat out. She ran a member questionnaire to make sure the club is genuinely helping every member hit their goals, then delivered an educational session on meeting roles and the executive committee. Thank you Kerri! πŸ™

πŸ›οΈ Fred took the floor for club business, where motions were moved and discussions were had. Every good team has a hard working crew behind the scenes, and the commitment the whole committee to our members was on full display. Thank you committee! πŸ™Œ

πŸ† We also had awards on the night! Shawn received his certificate for completing Level 1, congrats Shawn! And Ben McCormick went gold after gold, collecting all five levels plus his Completion Certificate for Presentation Mastery, off the back of a year of hard work running Speechcraft courses across two clubs. Huge effort. πŸ₯‡

⏱️ And shepherding the whole thing? Our Sergeant at Arms, Toastmaster and long-time member John Hutchins. It was a night of excitement and rowdiness, and John's skills kept us all in line and on schedule. Thanks John! πŸ‘

✨ Want to come along as a guest? Guests are always welcome. Come a few times and see if it's the right fit for you. Reach out! πŸ’¬

P.S. That's two more points for me, Linda Thomson πŸ˜‰
