A little trip down memory lane… 10 years later!

What a special moment to welcome Mayor Teresa Harding and Jennifer Howard MP, to celebrate Cribb Street’s 50th anniversary!

It felt like a wonderful full-circle moment, looking back on our 40th anniversary celebrations a decade ago and seeing how far our little centre has come.

We were especially honoured to have them join us in recognising two very special people, Bernadette and Samantha, with Lifetime Membership Awards for their contributions to Cribb Street over the years.

50 YEARS OF CRIBB STREET!

What a morning. What a milestone. What an incredible community.

I’m not sure I can quite put into words how proud and overwhelmed we feel after celebrating Cribb Street Childcare Centre’s 50th anniversary today.

Standing in our little old Queenslander, surrounded by the people who have been part of its story, was something truly special.

Generations of families have walked through our gates, friendships have been made, and countless educators, volunteers and committee members have helped shape the centre into what it is today.

To everyone who came along this morning, whether you’re a current family, a past family, a former educator or someone who has supported Cribb Street over the years, thank you for showing up and celebrating with us. Seeing everyone come together was a beautiful reminder of just how much community means.

Looking back over 50 years of history, I feel an enormous sense of gratitude for the people who came before us. The people who believed in Cribb Street, who fought to keep its doors open through challenging times and who worked hard to protect it.

We are only one small part of a much bigger story, and what a privilege it is to be part of it.

1976–2026. Still standing, still growing, and still proudly part of the Ipswich community.

Happy International Chefs Day to our wonderful Robyn! 👩‍🍳

For 16 years, Robyn has had a hand in every pot at Cribb Street, and we mean that in every sense! Her care reaches into so many corners of our centre, and her cooking has that special quality of tasting like childhood.. familiar, comforting and made with love.

Behind the scenes, so much thought goes into catering for children’s allergies, dietary needs and preferences. It’s the extra planning, checking and adapting that can go unseen, but makes such a difference to children feeling included around the table.

This year, Robyn has also helped lead our move to being an Allergy Aware centre, supporting training with our whole team to better understand allergies, intolerances, gluten-free requirements and coeliac disease.

Robyn, thank you for 16 years of dedication and everything you bring to our children and team. There’s so much more to your role than what ends up on the plate, and we see and appreciate it all.

What if, instead of always telling children to “be careful”, we taught them how to recognise risk for themselves?
That was the thinking behind our September Supervision Project here at Cribb Street!

Throughout September, our educators and children embarked on a whole-service project exploring supervision, risk awareness and the important role children play in understanding their own safety.
At Cribb Street, we believe children are capable, competent and active contributors to their own learning. Their voices matter, their perspectives matter, and they deserve opportunities to participate in decisions that affect them.

Our completed September Supervision Project display brings together the voices of our children, the reflections of our educators and the learning that took place across our Babies, Toddlers and Kindergarten environments.

It is always great to be back in Ipswich on Yuggera country. Thank you Cribb Street Childcare and Kindy for hosting me for 8 Ways training last night.

Investigating 8 ways is often about alignment of pedagogy to what is already happening in a service and it’s also about using it to reflect on our current practices to see where we might, overtime, try to improve the things that were already working.

Both Sally and I concentrate on being really flexible in how we deliver our PD sessions. If this sounds like something that you would be interested in please contact us for the end of this year and 2027.
