In recognition of World Su***de Prevention Day, Kambu Health invites the community to come together for our Out of the Shadows Walk.

This free community event provides an opportunity to honour loved ones lost to su***de, support those who may be struggling, and raise awareness of mental health and su***de prevention.

Each year, more than 3,000 Australians lose their lives to su***de. Behind every number is a family member, friend, colleague, or loved one. By walking together, we remember those we have lost, stand alongside those who are hurting, and show that hope, connection, and compassion can make a difference.

The Kambu Social Health team invites community members to join us for a meaningful walk through the park. Along the way, participants will be invited to write the names of loved ones on paper leaves and place them on trees, creating a heartfelt memorial of remembrance, connection, and hope.

Following the walk, everyone is welcome to stay for a community yarn, a free BBQ, and tea and coffee as we come together in healing, support, and solidarity. Together, we can help reduce stigma, encourage conversations about mental health, and remind one another that no one has to face life's darkest moments alone.

Date: Thursday 10 September 2026
Time: 10:00am-12:00pm
Location: Denmark Hill Conservation Park, 20 Chelmsford Ave Ipswich

For more information, please reach out to the Social Health team at (07) 3810 3000 Option 2

Community Feedback

Earlier this month we posted about how Nurse Tilly (Laidley Clinic Nurse) was presented with a Practice Excellence in Health Award 2026 by CEO Dania Ahwang and Chief Medical Officer Dr Nicci Roux.

This award recognises Kambu Health team members who demonstrate excellence and best practice in delivering culturally safe, high-quality health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families.

We recently received the beautiful feedback above about Nurse Tilly.

Thank you, Nurse Tilly, for your commitment to our community, for being a safe space where community wants to share their achievements with you, and for helping create healthier futures for our children, young people and families.

Wear It Purple Day

Today we celebrate Wear It Purple Day. The theme of 2026 is β€œColours of Courage.” Colours of Courage celebrates the many different forms of courage shown by LGBTQIA+SB young people, allies and communities every day.

Courage can look like speaking up, standing out and creating change. It can also take quieter forms of bravery, like living authentically, coming out, asking for support, standing beside someone, or choosing pride and hope in spaces where being yourself does not always feel easy.

The colours in this year’s theme reflect the diversity of identities, experiences and stories within our communities. Like light through a prism, every colour is different, but together they create something powerful.

Colours of Courage recognises the bravery it takes to push for change in schools, workplaces, communities and institutions where conversations about LGBTQIA+SB lives do not always happen. It celebrates the allies who choose to stand up, speak out and ask what they can do to help create safer, more inclusive spaces.

It also honours the courage of generations of LGBTQIA+SB people who came before us, and the strength of young people today as they continue to build community, connection and visibility.

Because courage is not only found in the big moments. It is found in the everyday choices to live proudly, support others and invite people into understanding, acceptance and celebration.
