We couldn't do what we do without the support of the community. This week we are especially thankful for Pathfinders support and generous donations of pumpkins, just in time for soup weather!

Last week, Pathfinders delivered fresh pumpkins to Inverellโ€™s Food For The Soul as part of our Annual Pumpkin Run donations ๐Ÿงก

Zoe from Food for the Soul warmly received the donation and shared her appreciation. The pumpkins will be put to great use at their weekly community dinner, where doors are opened to anyone in need of a meal, a chat, or simply some connection.

Inverell Shire Council has received and noted an update from Homes North Community Housing regarding a funding application to support new housing in Inverell.

At its April Ordinary Meeting, Council was advised that Homes North has submitted an Expression of Interest under Round 3 of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF), a national initiative aimed at increasing the supply of social and affordable housing.

The submission, lodged on 13 March 2026, includes three proposed development projects within Inverell:

โ€ข 98 Brae Street โ€“ expansion of an existing development and construction of additional new dwellings
โ€ข 49 Vernon Street โ€“ replacement of an existing dwelling with two new units
โ€ข 5โ€“11 Angel Avenue โ€“ a proposed five-dwelling development in partnership with Council

Mayor Cr. Kate Dight said the update highlights ongoing efforts to address housing needs in the community.

โ€œAccess to safe and affordable housing is a key issue for regional communities, and itโ€™s encouraging to see proposals being put forward to increase housing supply in Inverell. While this is an early stage in the process, Council welcomes the opportunity to be involved in initiatives that support housing outcomes for our community.โ€

The Housing Australia Future Fund was established by the Australian Government to deliver long-term investment in social and affordable housing across the country, including in regional areas.

At this stage, no outcome has been announced regarding the Expression of Interest, and it is not yet known whether the proposed projects will progress to the next stage of assessment.

Council noted that it will continue to work with relevant organisations and stakeholders to support housing initiatives where opportunities arise.

Can you spare one Wednesday a month? Maybe an hour every second week? We are in need of extra volunteers, and whatever your capacity, we would love to have you join us!!

FFTS is an independent, grassroots organisation, funded by community donations and run by dedicated volunteers uniting with a single goal - to feed Inverell.

We aim to reach some of the most isolated and marginalised members of our community, and help them to feel connected and engaged. Some of our regulars are trying to stretch the grocery budget, some are just looking for friendly conversation, some are coming for a hot meal that they can't prepare for themselves. Whatever brings our guests to our table, we are open and welcome to all.

What does volunteering entail? Our kitchen is active from 4-6.30pm each Wednesday, with meal service occurring between 5pm & 6pm. we have a roster made up monthly, so you know what to expect for your shifts. Some of our volunteers stay the whole time. Some come for prep only, some for clean up only. You get to set your availability to suit your capacity - whether it's an hour every week, a full service once a month, or somewhere in between.

If you would like to know more about becoming part of the FFTS team, please shoot us a message. we'd love to chat with you!
