For 70 years, Meals on Wheels Queensland has been built on something simple but powerful: people showing up for their community. Many thanks to all our wonderful volunteers who keep our community feed and nourished and provide some beautiful social connection each delivery.

This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the 2026 theme — Your Year to Volunteer 💙

There’s never been a better time to get involved. At Meals on Wheels Australia, our volunteers do so much more than deliver meals — they bring connection, kindness and support to older Australians every day.

Whether it’s a friendly chat at the door or helping someone stay independent in their own home, every moment matters.

To our incredible volunteers: thank you for everything you give. And to those thinking about getting involved — perhaps it is your year to volunteer.

38 Years of Community Kindness in Motion 💛

Between them, Graham and Margaret have given nearly 38 years of volunteering with Logan Central Meals on Wheels; an incredible legacy of care, consistency, and community spirit.

Graham has been delivering meals (and friendly smiles) as a volunteer driver for almost 24 years, while Margaret has been helping keep the kitchen running smoothly for close to 14 years.

Together, they’re part of what makes Meals on Wheels so special; people showing up for people, week after week, year after year, making sure no one in our community feels forgotten.

It’s the kind of quiet, everyday kindness that keeps everything rolling 🍲🚗

We’re proud to be working alongside St John Queensland to help more people stay connected and access affordable, nourishing meals in their community.

🚐 Community Connections Transport is now up and running, helping people get to participating meal locations across Brisbane and Wide Bay; choose what you feel like, enjoy a good meal, and get home safely and easily.

With Judy, a Meals on Wheels visit brings a quiet kind of joy into the day.

There’s a knock at the door, and suddenly the space feels lighter. A familiar face, a smile that already knows her, and a conversation that doesn’t need warming up before it turns into laughter.

It’s the kind of connection that doesn’t feel formal or planned, it just happens, because trust has been built over time, one visit at a time. Someone showing up in a way that feels genuinely human.

And that’s what makes it Seasoned with Care.

In 1956, three meals delivered from a kitchen in Ipswich marked the start of something incredible.

Seven decades later, Meals on Wheels in Queensland has grown into a state-wide network of 100 member services. While we’ve grown, our heart remains the same: ensuring our older and vulnerable neighbours can live independently, stay connected, and feel cared for in their own homes.

As we approach our 70th anniversary in 2026, we are inviting new partners to help shape the next chapter of our story. There are two flagship initiatives your organisation can be part of:
🤝 The 70th Anniversary Dinner: A premier gala event at the Queensland Art Gallery on 26 August 2026.
🤝 Seasoned with Care: A legacy publication documenting the powerful stories and social history of the Queenslanders who have powered our mission since the mid-fifties.

Community resilience is built through partnership, and we know we cannot do this work alone. If your organisation believes in making a tangible social impact in the regions where your teams live and work, we would love to collaborate with you.
