When: 20th October
Where: Meeting HCPSL and then travelling to Tully and returning
Costs: NIL

What is involved:
Hear about the role of vegetation in drainage lines, how to manage creek banks and wetlands, and learn how to take a water sample for analysis.

Hands-on workshop using farm mapping to identify drainage lines, flow pathways, water-related challenges and natural systems. Then plan management actions for those areas.

🏆 Registrations are now open for the inaugural Hinchinbrook Trapping Awards!

The inaugural Trapping Awards recognise the efforts of local landholders and volunteers helping to manage feral pigs across the Hinchinbrook Shire.

Feral pigs cause significant damage to agricultural land, wetlands, creek systems and native habitats, making ongoing management an important part of protecting our region.

As part of the awards, all feral pigs must be trapped and humanely euthanised in accordance with Australian Standards and the National Code of Practice for the Humane Control of Feral Pigs.

🏆 Trapper of the Year Award
💰 $2,000 cash prize + $600 camera package

🎟 Participation Award
💰 $1,500 cash prize

The competition runs from 1 October to 31 December 2026.

📸 Image submissions for award judging must be received by 3.00pm on Friday, 15 January 2027. Images can be submitted via email, USB or SD card. It is the responsibility of participants to ensure their images have been received by HCPSL before the submission deadline.

What would Tissue Culture look like in my farming system?

Growers at Wednesday’s Tissue Culture Demo Day at the Macknade depot were asking this very question. The demo day got going with a grower panel who shared everything from how much material they ordered, to their watering regime, and what blocks they allocated to their tissue culture plantlets.

The panel discussion provided an opportunity to get real-word insights from tissue culture growers from different regions and with different experience.

Following on from the discussion the HCPSL field team demonstrated the use of planting equipment and the irrigation system used in the HCPSL plots.

Extension Agronomist Rhiannan Harragon highlighted the key message of the day: “everyone is going to do tissue culture a little differently.”
