Last day of the school holidays and Inala mob were invited to join in on the community catch and cook day on Minjerribah.

As soon as we landed Jarjum jumped straight into the water. We were then welcomed by Aunty Mary and Uncle Dale Ruska talked about the significance of fishing and how we carry on sustainable cultural practices of our old people for the current and future generations.

Everyone was involved in catching our lunch. First we were tapping the water to encourage the fish to swim into our net which was then dragged ashore with our catch. All the fish was collected from the net, scaled, gutted, cooked and shared. We even got to taste Quandmooka’s finest oysters from Fisher's Oysters thanks to Shauny Boy and indulge in Aunty Mary’s damper.

The ride home seen us cramming onto the boat before we boarded our bus. The ride home seemed faster but much more quiet.

We thank Minjerribah Moorgumpin Elders-in-Council Aboriginal Corporation for an unforgettable day, Yulu-Burri-Ba for the bbq and all the organisers and contributors who made the day possible. We can’t wait to come back for another community day.
