South-East Plantations Closed

Due to the threat from Tropical Cyclone Alfred, all forestry plantations managed by HQPlantations in southeast Queensland are now closed until further notice. This includes plantations in Beerburrum, Mary Valley, Blackbutt, Toolara, Tuan, Wongi and Elliot River.

According to the latest updates from the Bureau of Meteorology, Tropical Cyclone Alfred is expected to impact the Queensland coast, with a potential landfall between Bundaberg and the New South Wales border this Thursday. The Bureau warns that from Wednesday onwards, TC Alfred may bring heavy rainfall, damaging winds, falling trees, powerlines, and flash flooding, posing significant risks to public safety.

As such, the closure applies to all walkers, cyclists, horse riders, motorbike riders, and motorists. We kindly ask that everyone adhere to these closures for their own safety and the safety of our employees and emergency service providers.

If you would like any updates on TC Alfred, please visit Australia’s official weather forecast site, the Bureau of Meteorology at www.bom.gov.au.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this critical period. Your safety is our top priority.

Please visit our website for more information on our closures.

I’ve seen a few people who are concerned that the gympie region is going to experience the same type of flooding that we had in 2022 , while cyclones do bring heavy rain with them it will be short lived , the areas to the south of the gympie region , Imbil Kandanga and Ammamoor will experience a lot of flash flooding that will eventually make its way to the river , any water that goes into the river in the catchment area then takes around 22 hrs to reach the Mary at gympie so we will have plenty of warning and time to react , I hope this helps to calm some nerves , as someone who has seen many floods and different weather events my suggestion is to keep an eye on the Gympie regional council website via the Disaster dashboard and have a look at the information they have on there ,
