1st Wearne Bay Sea Scouts Group - Illawong 1st Wearne Bay Sea Scouts are located in Illawong, NSW. Join us for outdoor experiences and personal growth.

Scouting is a rewarding and welcoming experience, regardless of your age, gender, or any previous experience in Scouting. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of this land and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and future.

1st Wearne Bay’s Scout Hall is located on the traditional lands of the Aboriginal nations of Dharawal. Illawong is an Aboriginal word meaning between two waters, referring to the Woronora and Georges Rivers on which we are located. Furthermore, we also recognise these peoples as Australia’s first sailors, artist, scientists, navigators, campers, bush walkers, engineers and campfire story tellers. Their knowledge and skills are an integral part for the future growth of Australia and understanding its unique attributes.

🏍️ How do you measure success? At Breakfast Torque, it’s happy riders, full stomachs and an incredible team effort!

Early this morning, we fired up the BBQs to support Sutherland Shire Council Breakfast Torque event, with more than 40 of our amazing Scouts and volunteer parents working together to serve breakfast to hungry riders.

And what a breakfast it was!
🍳 900 eggs
🥓 45kg of bacon
🌭 33kg of sausages
🧅 15kg of onions

We served soooo many people over 3hrs and it was fantastic to meet so many riders and stall holders thankful for yummy breakfast.

A massive THANK YOU to every Scout and parent who gave up their time and helped make the morning such a success.

Joeys and Cubs have been making the most of the outdoors this week! Our Joeys and Cubs both hit the Illawong fire trails: Joeys loved their nature fun scavenger hunt, while our Cubs put their skills to the test racing billy carts at Austin Street Oval.

With daylight savings back and the evenings getting longer, we’re looking forward to a Term full of outdoor adventures, new challenges and plenty of Scouting fun!

A weekend of fun, adventure, action, water, competition and Scouting spirit! 1st Wearne Bay has had an awesome time at the Boree Regatta 2026 - Everything Aussie!

From Joeys enjoying land activities and a live reptile show 🦎 to Cubs and Scouts giving every event their best, there’s been plenty of action! 🏆 Some Cubs and Scouts placed in events, and our Cubs are coming home with the Kontiki Shield for Raft Line Honours! 🚣‍♂️ Our Venturers also had a fantastic weekend enjoying the planned activities and chilling. We also joined JOTA-JOTI, connecting with Scouts from around the world with help from the SGARS - St George Amateur Radio Society.

A HUGE thank you to our amazing volunteer leaders who go above and beyond to make these weekends possible and support our Scouts to try new things, gain confidence in their skills and have fun!

Last weekend, a Patrol of Scouts headed to Cockatoo Island for an island adventure: camping, exploring and making the most of everything Sydney Harbour has to offer.

They checked out the old convict precinct, wandered through the Dog Leg Tunnel, explored the historic docks and Turbine Shop, and took in some pretty epic Sydney Harbour views.

Scouts caught trains and ferries, lugging along their tents, clothes and all the food they needed to keep themselves going for the weekend.

Our Joey Scouts proved that Superheroes come in all sizes at the South Metropolitan Region, Superhero Camp! From tackling exciting obstacle courses and problem-solving challenges to trying archery, climbing, craft activities, campfires and action-packed team games, our Joeys threw themselves into every adventure with enthusiasm and courage.

The weekend was a fantastic reminder that being a superhero isn't about being the biggest or strongest. It's about having a go, helping others, showing resilience, and believing in yourself. We are incredibly proud of our Joeys for stepping outside their comfort zones, making new friends, and showing that Joey Scouts can do anything they set their minds to.

A huge thank you to our Leaders Cuttlefish, Salty, Rider and Adult Helper Ben for supporting our Joey Superheroes throughout the weekend. From organising and running activity bases to encouraging our Joeys to have a go at new challenges!

Cubs on the Move! 🧭🌿 Over the past two weeks, our Cubs have been out exploring Woronora, putting their navigation skills to the test!

Armed with maps and compasses, they navigated from point to point, following clues, working together to find their way and making plenty of decisions along the journey. And with all those kilometres under their boots, they definitely put a few steps on their step counters!
