Dear peace friends and colleagues, for the past few months, I have been trying to help an incredible group of peacebuilders in Congo with whom I have worked for years and who have been a great inspiration to me for the work they do. Unfortunately, two of them have been brutally tortured while doing their work, and their team continues to be targeted and threatened by armed groups as the situation has escalated.

In addition, there is a global problem, and we have found it impossible to find any support. With what is happening with the Trump administration and the changed international attitude, the possibilities for support for peacebuilders, activists, and human rights defenders are dire. Many organizations have told us they lost their funding and shut down their programs. It is even harder for grassroots groups like this, which are built by locals with little resources and leverage.

So, we can only turn to mutual aid. I call on friends and colleagues to check out our fundraiser, share, and donate. Please let's stay engaged and connected, even if we face these challenging times for our sector. 💗

Also, if your work is related to DRC or you know organisations or individuals who are interested in supporting, advocating, sponsoring a local peacebuilding and human rights group (APADEC) please get in touch.

I couldn't resist!! If Squid Game is a metaphor for capitalism, this season kept making the point that instead of resisting oppression, most people choose to keep playing their masters' game out of their own will... even when we have seen their criminal behaviour and violence. And I was like naah, most people would clearly never accept that... or, do we?

The Australian government is very busy repressing those who call for protecting the future of our children so they might live in a world that is not falling apart. Surely, they must be terrorists?

Is this supposed to make Queensland 'safer'? In Australia, Aotearoa NZ, USA, and elsewhere, there's a trend of people electing governments that instead of fixing their colonial pasts, are keeping busy dismantling any progress that was being made. If the divide widens and the acute social crisis we are in gets worse, it is not going to help anyone in our communities though...

'Genocide' has been a focus of my studies as a student and researcher. It has specific criteria in international law, and we have plenty of evidence collected by organisations about what is happening in Palestine. If these are all dismissed, then what happens to the principle itself, that idea and genocide is not acceptable? Are we willing to live in a world where this is okay? Let's keep informed, discuss, share, and take action. check out the latest report by Amnesty.
