ICPA Hughenden Branch is excited to welcome the ICPA QLD INC - Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association Queensland Inc to Hughenden for their Mid-Year Meeting on Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th October!

We’d love for our local community, ICPA members, families and anyone interested in rural and remote education to come along and get involved!

☕ SATURDAY AFTERNOON – Afternoon Tea with State Council
📍 Diggers Entertainment Centre (DEC) | 3:30 pm

Pop in for afternoon tea, have a chat with our State Councillors and find out more about what ICPA does for rural and remote families. You’re also welcome to sit in on the meeting for the afternoon!

🍽️ SATURDAY EVENING – Meet ’N’ Greet
📍 Hughenden Bowls Club | From 6:30 pm

Join us for a relaxed evening of good food, great company and a chance to connect with fellow community members and chat with State Council.

💰 Dinner: $40 per person
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Kids are very welcome!
🍻 Drinks available to purchase on the night.

📣 PLEASE RSVP FOR DINNER! Numbers are needed for catering, so please let Shona know how many people will be attending if you haven’t already responded. NO WALK IN'S WILL BE WELCOME due to catering purposes.

Introducing the ICPA Hughenden Committee

Following our recent AGM and General Meeting, we are pleased to introduce the ICPA Hughenden Branch Committee:

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our AGM and General Meeting and continues to support our branch. It is wonderful to have people willing to put their hands up, contribute their time and work together to advocate for the educational needs of rural and remote children and families.

We would also like to extend a very special thank you to our ICPA Hughenden Branch Mentor, Paula McKerrow, for her continued guidance, knowledge and support. It is greatly appreciated.

We’re looking forward to another year of working together, strengthening our branch and continuing to be a voice for rural and remote education.

Here’s to a great year ahead for ICPA Hughenden!

Supporting our future teachers in the Flinders Shire!
ICPA Hughenden was very pleased to support Ariana and Holly as they completed their pre-service teaching practicums at Hughenden State School earlier this year.

As a branch, we know just how important passionate and capable teachers are to the future of rural and remote education. We also recognise that undertaking a rural practicum can come with additional costs and challenges for university students.

Through our Pre-Service Teacher Bursary, ICPA Hughenden was able to provide $500 to each student to help with the costs associated with completing their placement in the Flinders Shire.

We would also like to sincerely thank QCWA Hughenden for working alongside our branch and generously supporting Holly with accommodation during her placement. This was a wonderful example of local organisations working together to make rural placements more accessible and welcoming for our future teachers.

Most importantly, we hope Ariana and Holly enjoyed their time at Hughenden State School, gained plenty of valuable hands-on experience and left with a real appreciation for everything teaching and living in a rural community has to offer.

Initiatives like this are about more than supporting two placements. They’re about giving future teachers the opportunity to experience rural education firsthand and hopefully encouraging more of them to consider rural and remote communities when they begin their teaching careers.

It’s that time of year!

ICPA Hughenden Branch is hosting our Annual General Meeting, followed by a General Meeting, on Wednesday 2nd September 2026.

We'd love as many members to join us as possible, especially as we have some exciting things coming up including hosting ICPA QLD INC - Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association Queensland Inc for their mid-year meeting in October!

The TEAMS link will be emailed to all members. If you would like to join but aren't yet a member or don't receive the link, please reach out to us.

All executive positions will be declared vacant at the AGM, so why not consider putting your hand up and stepping into an executive role? It’s a great opportunity to get involved, have your say and help shape the future of our branch.
