Howes Valley Firewood

Howes Valley Firewood Local family run business. EPA approved firewood processors.

Firewood orders have started to flow in with the cooler mornings we are having!
Due to the current cost of fuel we have had to made the difficult decision to add a $20.00 fuel levey to each load of firewood we sell until the price of fuel stabilises and returns to somewhat reasonable cost!

This decision was not taken lightly, but everything we use to process and deliver firewood runs on fuel, from the chainsaws to cut and trim the trees, log skidder and tractors to move the fallen trees and load them, vehicles to get us around the farm and move the logs to our processing machinery, the log saw and splitter, the tractors for loading the split timber and the obvious one is the delivery truck!

$20.00 FUEL LEVEY PER 3M LOAD OF FIREWOOD!

I hope that you all understand and look forward to seeing you all soon!
Regards
Howes Valley Firewood team xo

We have plenty of orders coming in with the cooler mornings😆
Plenty of mixed hardwood available... $450 for a 3metre load! Limited supplies of Ironbark at $600 for the 3 metre load.

What sort of firewood do we use?

The mixed hardwood of course!
All the short off cuts, end bits and rough looking pieces. Oh and a few old fence posts😂

Cleaned out the fireplace for the first time this season... 6 weeks of 24 hour burning and not even a full bucket of ash (note the hardware from the old fence posts😂).... only cleaned out the fireplace this morning because 'someone' forgot to put wood in it last night before going to bed🙄 lucky it wasn't cold this morning😂😂

Due to the general increase in running costs for our business we have had to increase the price of our firewood😞
From fuel, electricity, registrations, insurances, loan repayments and general servicing and maintenance of machines.... everything has increases significantly in the past year( I know you are all feeling it too). Our business just cant keep absorbing all these increases. So any orders taken from today, 3rd June will be billed at the new price. Any orders that have already been made will still be at the old price.

We currently have no Ironbark in stock and will be at least July before we have any available at the new price of $600 for 3 metres (all current orders will be fulfilled at old price)

People often ask what we do when we are not doing firewood🤔

After such a hectic season we are taking a bit of 'time out' from firewood for a month or two, so we can get on top of some other jobs around the farm. As usual everything gets neglected during winter, cattle and sheep need drenching, fences need fixing, machinery and vehicles all need a bit of maintainance and servicing. Getting our vegie patch in order for summer. A bit of family time never goes astray either!
You might even see Jason swinging a saw at one of the local post splitting competitions for a bit of fun 😆

Also trying to keep up with a bit of training as volunteers with the RFS. We hosted a group doing their 'crosscut and trimming' chainsaw ticket on our property last month.... had to keep reminding them to cut the logs to 30cm length😂
....and on top of all that Jason has a full time job in the mines😂

We will be back into firewood before we know it💖

Well the last few weeks haven't exactly gone as planned! It rained......and rained.....and rained, 10 inches of rain! The roads were closed, we lost power and we lost phone service, both landline and mobile. The bridge into our property was under more than 2 metres of water.
We attempted to get firewood logs out this weekend, but the truck got bogged, then the log skidder got bogged while trying to get the truck unbogged🤣(both are now unbogged, but not moving anywhere in a hurry)
We are so disappointed and frustrated that our firewood season has come to a complete standstill. There is nothing we can do until things dry out a bit... this could take weeks and with more predicted rain, even longer😭
Currently we have a lot of deliveries waiting to be filled. Unfortunately we are unable to do these right now. We would encourage our customers to seek firewood elsewhere at this time. We are fully aware that most other local firewood suppliers are in a similar predicament with delivery timeframes completely blown out. As we get in limited supply of firewood we will contact our customers in order that we have received your orders to fulfill them.

Stay safe and hopefully warm.
The team at Howes Valley Firewood💞

Hello All
Well the weather has been a little unpleasant this past week with over 250mm of rain in the past 4 days! I apologise to anyone who is waiting on deliveries, but we are taking the week off to allow our property to dry out a little before we continue work. The roads in and out of Howes Valley are still closed at the moment and while our home is high on a hill we are wading through inches of mud everywhere.
We are taking some time to let it dry out a bit and tend to our livestock and assortment of other animals.

We hope to be back on deck next week and will be trying to catch up as best we can. Our current deliveries will be fulfilled as soon as possible.

Stay safe and dry!

To say we have had a busy week is probably a bit of an understatement! 24 loads of firewood delivered, 73 cubic metres.....our biggest single week ever!!!!!
Throw in a couple of nightshifts at "real work" as well, a flat tyre on the little truck when fully loaded and a broken latch on the trailer that had to be welded back on.... but we have made it through to Sunday night! Even I reckon Jason deserves a beer when he gets home from the last delivery!

BUT... there is no way we could have gotten through this week without some help from our friends and family! A huge thanks goes to Rob Harris who helped get our big saw and splitter back to high ground, where we can continue to work safely without getting bogged. The rain this year has made work extremely difficult. We were more organized at the start of this year than we have ever been. Had plenty of dry logs waiting in the paddock to be processed.... then the rains came, and they kept coming. The paddocks were soaked, the tracks became boggy and slippery. We couldn't safely get to our timber or the "real" machinery. The firewood we had prepared back at the house block was quickly running low. With a lot of hard work from friends and family who came to lend a hand we kept on top of things in between showers of rain. It was hard going with chainsaws and the little block splitters, we were keeping on top of things..... just! Then it got cold and the orders started pouring in.
We finally got a lucky break in the weather...... it diddn't rain for a whole week! Jason and Rob took off up to the farm last week and home they came towing the big saw and splitter behind the two green tractors. We now have them set up on the hill and working how they should be. With the massive week we have had on deliveries we still have a couple of weeks wait on getting deliveries out.

Thank you to all of our family and friends who have helped us out over the past months.... you know who you all are! And thank you to all of our customers for being so patient while we juggle our deliveries around a full time job off the farm and a very busy family life. We appreciate each and every one of you xo
