There is a High Fire Danger rating forecast across much of Tasmania this week. Make sure you stay alert and prepared.

With a High Fire Danger rating forecast across much of Tasmania this week, there’s a few things we can all do to stay safe.

ℹ️ Be aware vegetation is dry and there is a High Fire Danger rating in Central North, East Coast, Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, Central Plateau and Western districts today.

πŸ€” Think carefully and be cautious if lighting a campfire or using machinery.

πŸ”₯ Check recent fires on your property, including fire pits and other outdoor fires, are fully extinguished. Soak it. Stir it. Soak it again.

On days of bushfire danger, plan to leave early as a precaution to avoid being caught in smoke, fire or on roads with other people trying to evacuate. Remember, conditions can change rapidly and it may be extremely hot and windy with poor visibility.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Tasmania Fire Service has suspended the issuing of fire permits statewide as we prepare for high fire danger across the state this weekend. Please read all the detail in the post below.

Tasmania Fire Service has suspended the issuing of fire permits statewide as we prepare for high fire danger across the state this weekend.

From 2am today (Friday, 9 January) until 2am Monday 12 January:

‼️ No fire permits will be issued for burns during the period.
❌ Any fire permits already issued for fires during this period are cancelled as conditions will be unsafe for burning.
πŸ”₯ If you have burned in the last week, check your fire is fully extinguished.
πŸ”₯ Burns under 1 cubic metre which do not require a permit are strongly discouraged.
πŸ”₯ Anyone having a campfire and/or wood fire barbecue is urged to never leave it unattended.
‼️ Anyone operating equipment is urged to be vigilant to avoid any activity that may cause accidental ignition of vegetation during this suspension.

The Fire Permit Period for all of Tasmania is now in place.
Please make sure you are aware of all the requirements during this period.

The Fire Permit Period for all of Tasmania will start today (Tuesday, 16 December 2025) – this means from 2am Fire Permits will be required across the state until the end of the 2025-26 bushfire season πŸ”₯πŸ“ƒ

If you have a property and you wish to conduct a burn (larger than 1 cubic metre in size) on your property, you will need to apply for a free Fire Permit by submitting an application online at fire.tas.gov.au or calling the Tasmania Fire Service on 1800 000 699

πŸ“² During a Fire Permit Period:
πŸ“‘ People intending to light a fire for burning vegetation or for a similar purpose must obtain a permit.
πŸ“‘ People intending to light a fire at a sawmill or factory for burning wood waste or other flammable material must obtain a permit.
πŸ“‘ People intending to light a fire for cooking, warmth or disposal of garden waste do not require a permit provided that:
❌ The fire is not lit in peat, humus or marram grass.
❌ The fire is attended by a responsible adult at all times until it is extinguished.
❌ All flammable material is removed for at least three metres radius from the fire.
❌ It is less than one cubic metre in size.
