Have an old phone that could be rehomed?

We've just sent our first bundle of donated phones to our collection partners at DV Safe Phone. 22 second hand phones, ranging from some that look almost brand new to some that may be a little too 'nostalgic', are on their way to DV Safe Phone who will assess them, give them a second life, and provide them to someone escaping violence.

If you have an old or unused phone cluttering a drawer at home and would like to provide it to the DV Safe Phone program, you can drop it in one of our collection boxes at the following locations:
• Queanbeyan: Nellie Hamilton Centre, 257 Crawford St
• Bungendore: 13 Gibraltar St
• Braidwood: 144 Wallace St

Before donating, phones should be reset and accounts signed out of. Non-usable devices are responsibly recycled. Residents can donate phones of any age or condition.

For more information about the DV Safe Phone program visit dvsafephone.org or our website at www.qprc.nsw.gov.au

It’s a couple of days late, but the importance a working smoke alarm can’t be emphasised enough. In our area, last year a car fire (ICE) in a garage alerted the owner from an alarm located in that area. Although the car was severely damaged, the house wasn’t damaged. Many years ago, a local house had a fire with no smoke alarms. By chance, one of the residents left a bedroom to visit the toilet. The rest of the house was fully involved with fire and remarkably, all persons were able to escape unharmed. The house was totally destroyed. It’s a reminder that you cannot smell smoke when you are asleep! With electric heaters, electronic equipment and wood heaters now in use, you can’t afford to not have a working smoke alarm in your home.
