Camper’s Kitchen CWA Rooms Hopetoun WA

For three years Lake King Branch of Country Women’s Association raised money by catering and purchased a corrugated iron lean to building in Ravensthorpe for £25 ($50). Their husbands dismantled it and rebuilt it at its current sight on the Esplanade, Hopetoun in 1949. The two room kitchen with an open front and earth floor had two wood stoves, laundry facil

ities, and table’s stools. Lakes District families camped around in tents and obtained fresh water initially from Veal’s Store and later from a concrete tank at the Hopetoun Hall (demolished 2014).For these families holidays began on Boxing Day as it was an annual pilgrimage to the beach. Lake King CWA branch disbanded in 1958 and when Hopetoun CWA branch was formed in 1966 they took over the building. The centre structure of the building remains the same and over the years additions alterations and improvements have been made.
