🚤 A historic milestone for the Derwent!

Boats can now travel the entire length of the River Derwent between Hobart and New Norfolk after the demolition of the old Bridgewater Bridge was completed.

With the new Bridgewater Bridge now in operation, the river is fully open for navigation for the first time in decades. The reopening paves the way for the return of the New Norfolk Regatta in 2027 and creates exciting opportunities for recreation and tourism along the waterway.

In a fitting tribute, sections of the old bridge will be transformed into public artworks, while the remaining materials will be recycled. 🌉♻️🚤

🌧️ Tasmania Weather

A low-pressure system will bring unsettled weather across Tasmania over the next few days.

* ⚡ Thursday: Showers and possible thunderstorms, mainly on the North West Coast.
* 🌬️ Friday: A cold front will move across the state, bringing widespread showers and strong winds.
* ❄️ Saturday: Much colder conditions with snow expected above 1,000 metres, particularly in western and southern areas.
* ☀️ Sunday: Weather will improve as high pressure builds, with only a few showers remaining on the West Coast and fine conditions elsewhere.

Stay warm and take extra care if travelling through higher elevations this weekend.

Firefighters from the Tasmania Fire Service are responding to a structure fire on Bowden Street, Glenorchy, which broke out just before 8:00 pm.

* Smoke has been visible across parts of Glenorchy.
* A smoke alert has been issued for the surrounding area.
* Residents are advised to avoid the area unless necessary.
* The Tasmania Fire Service has stated that there is currently no threat to the general public.

Motorists and nearby residents should follow any directions from emergency services and avoid smoke exposure where possible by keeping windows and doors closed.
