SV Rhona H Sail on an historic 1942 Gaff Rigged ketch. Sails always set! SV Rhona H ~ Heritage Sailing Tasmania where SAILS are ALWAYS SET! River Derwent and Beyond.

This is the reason why one of guests way back in 2014 called us “The Ship that Sails” and it has stuck ever since. We set sails as quickly as possible on departure, emulating what the trading ketches and sailing barges like the “May Queen” did in the age of sail. The boat is historic, built for the Youl family in 1942 as a ketch and then owned by Max Hardy from around 1946 who removed one of the masts. She had a long history as a cray and couta boat with numerous owners before being converted to her current rig: gaff rig topsail ketch. Under sail is peaceful and hearing the sounds of the water is quite different once the engine is off. Hard to spot, we often hear penguins close by. More than a boat Cruise: sail on a 1942 Gaff Rigged ketch

Tasmania has a rich sailing heritage and it was a privilege to represent the Premier Jeremy Rockliff yesterday along with the Governor of Tasmania, Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells for the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania opening season 2026-27.

My father Bill was a 50 year + member, I wore his cap for the day.

Exciting news.

We are excited to announce SV Rhona H will have a new custodian as of the 4th October 2026.

Congratulations to Red Schooner Ocean Adventure

For the new addition to their fleet.

We will update further but welcome you aboard on our last two sails this weekend and Opening Day next weekend.

Huge thanks to Custodian Classic Boat Sales team for their part in the process.

Thank you to our crew, supporters and all who have sailed with us over the past 12 years. We couldn’t have done it without you and especially to SV Rhona H for allowing us to be her custodian. What a privilege we’ve had to have had this journey.

So many thanks to be said.

We still love Federation Artisan Chocolate

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19eobUW47p/?mibextid=wwXIfr

There’s a family behind every bar of Federation Chocolate — ours, and the families who grow our cacao beans. ❤️

Helen spoke with ABC News this recently about the rising cost of chocolate and why we still choose to make ours from cacao beans here in Richmond.

We’ve always believed good chocolate is something to savour. We want it to bring a moment of joy, and we want the people who grow the cacao to be paid fairly for their work. Keeping that commitment has become harder as costs have risen, but it matters to us.

If you love seeing small family makers in Tasmania, please give this post a like and share Helen’s story. It helps more people discover what goes into the chocolate we make — and it means more to us than you might realise.

Thank you for getting behind us.

Maurice & Helen, Rose and Jax

Rhona H went back to her home berth today.

Three weeks ago we departed for Kettering and Oyster Cove Marina.

Huge thanks to all the crew who supported us whilst on the slip, be it directly or behind the scenes, helping with the trip south and back, helping with getting ready for ten year survey and then putting everything back again.

We were delighted to see a flyover by the Air Force Roulettes as we made our way back up the Channel.

Then a wave and a smile from Cpt Peter O’May as we came into Sullivans Cove.

Thank you all.
