| Tasmanian Times reveals premier used budget funds for covert election blitz.

New figures revealed by RTI show the government's advertising spend 50% higher than the original $35,000 stated in RTIs requested by TDMG earlier this month. The released documents reveals the government requested to extend it's full digital takeover of Pulse Tasmania's website after it's no-confidence motion defeat, with the campaign running into the first few weeks of the snap election.

This revelation by the Tasmanian Times has resulted in these matters being referred to the integrity commission and electoral commission for assessment to determine if the advertising constitutes a misuse of public funds, and whether the 26% discount provided constitutes as an undeclared gift under the Electoral Act 2004.

โฐ2:20pm -- ๐Ÿ‘‰ The source of the chemical spill has been contained.

The spilt acid has been diluted and flushed through the drainage system into the Tamar River.

As recommended by the EPA, we will continue to flush water through the system for a further four hours to make it safe.

While the formic acid present in the Tamar River has been diluted, TFS advises that the community should avoid contact with the water.

More than 300 metal detecting wands have now been rolled out to stations across the state, giving our officers another valuable tool to help deliver public safety.

๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿš“The wands will be in widespread use as police step up high-visibility patrols in shopping areas, entertainment precincts and public transport hubs from this week, targeting anti-social behaviour and unlawful activity.

โžก๏ธ Since 16 June 2025, Police have conducted more than 820 searches using metal detecting wands.

โžก๏ธThere have been 29 weapons seized including knuckle dusters, blades, scissors, boxcutters and knives of various descriptions.

โžก๏ธ Knives are the most common weapon used in crimes in Tasmania. Using wand technology allows police to conduct searches more efficiently and with greater safety for both our officers and the public.

โŒ If youโ€™re carrying a knife in a prescribed public place and have no lawful reason to be doing so, then you can expect to be searched and you can expect to be prosecuted.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ ๐Ÿป Extra patrols across the state this festive season will ensure our public spaces such as retail areas, entertainment precincts, licensed premises and public transport hubs, remain safe for everyone.

๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ‘€ To report knife crime, call triple zero (000) in an emergency or report to police on 131 444.

A much-loved blue tree on the Midland Highway near the Longford turn-off was cut down today after a fire on Thursday compromised its hollow base, causing safety concerns. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒณ

The Northern Midlands Council said the old tree had been dropping limbs for months, and the increased risk caused by the fire led to the decision to cut it down.

The Blue Tree Project tree, painted by volunteers in 2021, served as a reminder of the importance of having open and meaningful conversations about mental health and su***de.

The council said it is already looking for a suitable replacement tree, and that it welcomes suggestions from the public.

The Tasmania Fire Service said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
