Tasmanian Youth Parliament

The Tasmanian Youth Parliament is a unique opportunity for Tasmania's young people to come together and discuss issues that matter to them.

The Tasmanian Youth Parliament is held annually in Hobart, allowing up to 60 young people to come together for a week of learning and discussion. A week-long residential camp is held in the winter school holidays during which participants draft bills and debate them at Parliament House. The program allows young people to meet with other like-minded youth and share ideas, build friendships and lear

n new skills. Participants are also exposed to experts in various fields and educational programs designed to give them advocacy skills and teach them about legislative and democratic processes. The program is organised and run by a dedicated group of young people known as the Taskforce, and is supported each year by the Tasmanian Youth Government Association, the YMCA of Hobart, and the Tasmanian Government.

Registration for Tasmanian Youth Parliament 2026 is open and closes midnight on March 27th!!!

The program is for young people in grades 10-13 (or of a similar age) and is a fantastic chance to communicate issues that matter to young people, meet friends from across the state and form lifelong friendships.

We would like to extend a massive thank you to all who applied for Taskforce 2026, Youth Parliament would not be possible without you. We are busy reading your forms and allocating roles, you will hear from us soon!

In the meantime, we are on the lookout for a media officer (since Ali is now too busy with other important jobs to maintain our socials 🥲).

📸 What the role entails:
- Monitoring our social media accounts
- Interacting with stakeholders through our social media accounts (politicians, the general public)
- Creating social media posts (both before and during the week of YP) that aid recruitment, sponsorship and public awareness
- Taking photos during the week of 18th - 25th July for the participants to look back on and to be used in future YP promotions (our camera or yours)
- Organising opportunities with other media outlets (eg. Newspaper, radio, and TV) through our connections

Today is the ⚠️LAST DAY⚠️ to sign up and join passionate, like-minded individuals aged 18-25 empowering, supporting, and uplifting young Tasmanians at Youth Parliament 2026.

We have a diverse range of roles available on our Taskforce this coming year, suited to many different interests, availabilities, and time commitments. Almost all of these roles can be completed virtually until the week of YP (18th-25th of July). FAQs:
🏠 Q: "Do i need to be in Tasmania to apply for Taskforce? What if I live on the mainland?"
🏠 A: No, you don't need to be living in Tasmania to apply for Taskforce. Our Tasmanian residents tend to be a minority! You only need to be in Tassie from the 18th-25th of July.
💼 Q: "I am not available to be an active member of Taskforce for the full few months due to other commitments. Is there still a way I can be involved in YP?"
💼 A: We understand that you may have prior commitments and aspire to make being a member of Taskforce possible for everyone. Roles that are mostly concentrated during the week of YP include our Welfare Officers, Advocacy Officer and Kitchen Coordinator, and would suit someone only able to contribute during that week.
📝 Q: "What happens once I fill out the application form? It asks for references, will they be contacted?"
📝 A: Once applications close tonight our co-convenors Ali, Lucian and Emily will spend the next few days sorting through them and choosing people to join the team. Your references will be sent a short google form and need to answer a few questions about you.
⛑️ Q: "Am I required to have prior training for Taskforce?"
⛑️ A: The short answer is no, as our friends at the Y will help with your WWVP card, first aid certificates, and more; but prior training is always a plus!

With applications for Taskforce closing in just 2 days (January 23rd), it's time we introduced you to our co-convenors of YP 2026!

Our co-convenors this year (from left to right) are Lucian, Emily and Ali. These three are dedicated, friendly, and helpful, and will be organising all things YP 2026.

But they need your help! Youth Parliament relies on volunteers aged 18-25 to help with the many roles and responsibilities involved in running such an amazing program.
