The reality of the privatised employment system is that it has been a catastrophic failure. Australians are paying more, governments are spending more, and service quality has deteriorated.

It’s time to return employment services back to the public sector to the benefit of all Australians.

The CPSU would like to extend our condolences and solidarity to the Cocker Family following the passing of Simon Cocker.

Simon was a dedicated trade unionist and led the Tasmanian branch as regional secretary in the 1990’s, before leading Unions Tasmania as Secretary between 2004 and 2010.

Simon led Unions Tasmania during the successful Your Rights at Work campaign against John Howard's WorkChoices laws.

Simon was a passionate workplace safety advocate and worked tirelessly for action on safe asbestos removal from workplaces and the broader community.

You would also see Simon as an enthusiastic member of the The Tasmanian Grassroots Union Choir, sharing his passion for working class story telling through music.

He will be deeply missed. Vale, Simon Cocker.

This investment is a welcome acknowledgement of the vital role of our national science agency by the government. Our members have been bravely speaking out against the job cuts since the process started in early 2024, and are now asking management to give a guarantee that this funding will go towards ensuring that there won’t be any more jobs cut.
