Australia’s next Census is on Tuesday 11 August 2026.

Census data helps governments and not-for-profits make important decisions about local services for our community.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is currently accepting applications for Community Field Officers! Community Field Officers support people from all cultures and communities to complete their Census form. They provide information about the Census and help people in-person to complete their form.

They are looking for a range of people with lived experience and experience working with:

· People living with disability
· People experiencing homelessness
· Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
· People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
· Youth and older Australians

These jobs are temporary, flexible and close to home, and suit a variety of schedules.

If you are interested in applying, please go to census.abs.gov.au/jobs for more information.

Well, autumn has well and truly arrived, and its not just the people enjoying the freshly fallen leaves. Here you can see Guide Dogs in Training Murdoch and Jimmy, along with their chocolate lab mate, Jake!

But while the world around them welcomes bare branches and earthtones, these pups remain in the spring of their youth!

A long road lies ahead of them, before they set out on their journeys as Guide or Assistance Dogs to help Tasmanians in need. But that doesn’t mean they can’t slow down and enjoy the little moments along the way!

Play and socialisation are critical parts of our training program, letting our dogs decompress and refresh before diving back into it all. So, why not take a page out of Murdoch and Jimmy’s books and go enjoy the autumn leaves before winter rolls on through.

Guide Dogs Tasmania Ambassador Dog Ruby enjoyed being the centre of attention at the opening of Coles at the brand new Spring Farm Village shopping centre in Kingston this week!

Thanks Coles for including us in the celebrations.

In Tasmania, Guide and Assistance dogs have legal rights to access all public places, passenger vehicles, and rental accommodations under both Commonwealth and State laws. Handlers cannot be discriminated against, denied service, or charged extra fees for their working animals.

Guide Dogs Tasmania had a wonderful time celebrating National Volunteer Week yesterday with morning tea events in Hobart and Launceston.

At Hobart’s IXL Jam Packed Café, our wonderful volunteers were joined by 10 adorable 7-week-old puppies in prams and 25 beautifully behaved dogs, all in their orange coats.

It was a fantastic chance to connect, share stories, and give the pups some valuable café training. A special congratulations to those who received long service awards — your commitment means the world.

Thank you to all our incredible volunteers. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
