Hear from treesitter Mon, who was arrested yesterday after taking a courageous stand to protect forests in Tasmania’s Waykaywirinu / Central Highlands from logging.

After spending the day in an ancient eucalypt threatened with destruction, Mon was charged and hit with a harsh curfew.

Meanwhile, the criminal act of logging these irreplaceable forests continues amid a worsening climate and extinction crisis.

It’s time to end native forest logging. Join us on the frontlines and help defend these forests - sign up now: https://bobbrown.org.au/get-involved/frontline-action/

A treesitter has moved into a controversial logging area in Wentworth Hills, part of Tasmania’s Waykaywirunu / Central Highlands, where Forestry Tasmania is destroying hundreds-of-years-old trees.

“Last year we held Big Canopy Campout in this forest, and now, Forestry Tasmania is logging it. We spent time getting to know these trees, climbing and camping out in them. There are old trees here. Old white gums and gum-topped stringybarks. This forest is surrounded by fragile button grass plains that will be impacted by this destruction. As more and more forest in the Wentworth Hills region is destroyed, wildlife are losing their home and having limited places left to go. We need to end this ecocide now,” — Mon Kerr from the treesit.

Today, Mon and other activists on the ground have halted logging destruction, acting as a last line of defence.

“If you want to care about the ecosystem as a whole, you’ve got to care about fungi.”

🍄 At this time of year, Takayna’s forest floor bursts into colour as fungi emerge in all shades of the rainbow.
