Tomorrow, Susan Sheehan and Alison Salisbury will face court to challenge their night curfew placed on them by Tasmania Police. In an example of complete police overreach, the two were given a strict 10 pm to 7 am house curfew until 25 January 2027 after being arrested last week for peacefully defending forests in Lutruwita / Tasmania from being logged.
 
This isn’t the first time that these heavy-handed curfews have been placed on activists. Ultimately, they have all been overturned by the court and, tomorrow, Alison and Susan will appeal their bail conditions and seek to get their curfews removed. But any night a forest defender is on a curfew is one night too many.
 
Forests need protection, and their defenders should be heard, not given nightly curfews for four months.

Legislation to protect the Great Koala National Park has finally been tabled by the NSW Labor Government, following endless delays. This is a hard-won victory powered by people who refused to give up.

Together, they fought tirelessly to protect 178,000 hectares of vital koala habitat on the NSW Mid North Coast, which will now be part of the Great Koala National Park stretching from Kempsey to Grafton.

Just over 12 months ago, logging was still happening in these forests. It’s a milestone worth celebrating, but a bittersweet one. Tuckers Nob and Pine Creek koala habitat with sacred Gumbaynggirr sites has been left out. We’ll keep fighting until the full park is protected. End native forest logging now.

Seals are naturally drawn to fish farms as a food source. But going near them can be deadly.

While the fate of this trapped seal is unknown, even if freed, they may return to the fish farm only to be met with explosives or anti-riot beanbag shots.

Tasmanian Government records show that in 2025 salmon farming operations used 3,477 explosive ‘seal crackers’ and at least 81 beanbag rounds on wildlife.

The same records identify the deaths of 51 birds, eight seals and five dolphins at salmon farming facilities.

For seals, and other native wildlife, these waters are home. They should be safe here, but Tasmania’s fish factory farms are putting them in harm’s way.

Forestry Tasmania has just re-submitted a logging plan for this beautiful forest in Takayna.

That means that there are clear intentions to destroy this ancient rainforest in the coming three years.

In early 2020, they started logging in this forest, and destroyed ancient sassafras trees for the ceiling of a hotel in Hobart. We resisted and forced them out then with non-violent direct action.

Ancient sassafras, giant myrtles and a richly biodiverse rainforest in this corner of Takayna — all of Takayna — must be urgently protected.

Yesterday, we protested in six locations from Canberra and across NSW to Lutruwita / Tasmania, and hit back at the native forest logging industry’s attempt to seek out social license. There is no social license for native forest logging. There never will be and there never has been.
 
Today is the final day of the 2026 Forestry Symposium where logging agencies from across the country have convened in Canberra. 
 
70% of the population wants an end to the ongoing destruction of native forests, killing endangered species and devastating sacred sites.
