This week we welcomed the Minister for Social Services and the NDIS, The Hon. Amanda Rishworth MP, and Good Things Australia CEO, Jess Wilson, to our Hobart Office to meet women from migrant and refugee women who are part of our groundbreaking Digital Sisters Women's Literacy program.

The Minister said digital literacy skills are crucial to being able to fully participate in Australian society. “Continuing this program is critical to reduce the digital divide that significantly impacts migrant and refugee women in Australia, affecting their ability to use online services and connect with their community.

It was an honor to meet Sue Woodward AM, Commission of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and her colleagues with our peers in work TasCAHRD and Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service.

It was a pleasure to welcome Sue Woodward AM, Commissioner of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, and her colleague Rachel to the Nigel Mallet House in Hobart.

Here, we proudly share space and ideas with other great organisations, including the Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service and Citizen Tasmania.

It was a fantastic day of coming together and celebrating our shared efforts to drive change in the community.

Last week we celebrated completion of Handmade Matters internship by Karuna. She successfully completed this 12 month leadership program under the guidance and mentorship from Jon Grant. During this time Karuna engaged in learning about making Democratic Chair and conversations about everything leadership and woodworking. We are also very grateful to Jon for giving us his time and wisdom and enabling a great partnership with Citizen.

We are excited to be one of the organisations from Tasmania to have received funding for piloting Digital Sisters Program on our island.

This will support our ongoing work of educating and empowering Tasmanian women from migrant and refugee backgrounds to build their digital skills and contribute towards thriving communities.

We're excited to announce that we’ve chosen 20 incredible organisations to each receive $20,000 in grant funding to participate in our pilot program, Digital Sisters. Congratulations to all of the organisations that were awarded a grant!

We want to thank the 70-plus organisations who applied for a grant and for the interest they showed in working with us. It was a very competitive process, the calibre of the applicants was high, and selecting the grantees was quite difficult. However, as Digital Sisters is a pilot program, we are hopeful that it will be the first of many more to come. We also aim to share our learnings and resources with our network partners.

We look forward to working with the successful applicants as we now look towards the official start of co-designing our first Digital Sisters project.
