Australia's Inner Wheel Clubs support Cord Blood Research as a National Project was first presented by then IWA President Anne McGill to members attending the IWA Annual Conference in Adelaide in October 2000. Support for the idea was overwhelming and thus the IWA National Project was born. Inner Wheel’s National Project on Cord Blood Research has been instrumental in our translational studies to harness the potential of cord blood, and we will continue to work towards our goal of preventing neonatal brain injury and the development of Cerebral Paisley. Since the year 2000 the Inner Wheel have supported Umbilical Cord Blood (UCB) basic and clinical translational research under the auspices of their National Project. This project was conceived and pioneered by the inspirational leadership of Anne McGill, AM, with the assistance of many Inner Wheel members and friends. A wonderful history of the development of this National Project has been documented. Although officially launched in 2001 as the National Project – Cord Blood Bank Research, the title was later changed to – Cord Blood Research to reflect the broader scope of the appeal and the funding of projects.

53 Research Grants to current date totaling $3,098,462
