We had a fabulous session with Rosny College students who were learning about the Fast Fashion industry and the environmental impacts of textile waste.

Students used a relief printing technique to embellish some Boomerang Bags which were made at SLC from repurposed textile waste.

Boomerang Bags is a movement that empowers communities to tackle plastic pollution at its source.

MUD GLORIOUS MUD!

Thanks to recent rains, bush children and their adults have been having a splendid time playing with mud.
It's so good for children's health; physical, mental and emotional. It's also a way of connecting deeply with Country.

SLC Bush Kinder now has two weeks break to coincide with the public school holidays.

Our next session of Bush Kinder will be on Monday the 27th of July.

50 YEARS OF DEADLY

Today is the first day of NAIDOC Week. This year's theme is "50 Years of Deadly," celebrating five decades of the NAIDOC movement and honouring the history, resilience, and cultural achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia.

It was very special today to see Palawa mob raise the flag at Piyura Kitina (Risdon Cove) to celebrate the start of NAIDOC Week 2026, and to stand strong with all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples from across the country.

It was an honour to be involved in a small part of the amazing art installation, honouring Country, that is currently up at Piyura Kitina. Our sculptures of beautiful bugs, which are an essential part of healthy ecosystems, look amazing. Thank you to everyone who came along to our community days at SLC to help make the bugs, and a special thank you to South Hobart Primary School students for their wonderful contributions.

We have been having a wonderful time working with South Hobart Primary School students on bug sculptures this week. The sculptures will form part of a huge art installation for NAIDOC Week which focuses on connection and care of Country, and developing a better understanding of our precious ecosystems.

DONATIONS APPRECIATED! We are after donations of various seed pods or other interesting natural materials for insect sculptures for an upcoming NAIDOC week event. We are also keen for appealing second hand clothing items for our 'Free Fashion' stall which encourages second hand rather than fast fashion consumerism. Drop off between 9-3 at the SLC.
