HACSU nurse delegates from across Tasmania came together today with one clear message: the government's silence on a new EBA is unacceptable.

Despite the HACSU bargaining team asking for an offer for a replacement nurses and midwives agreement at every bargaining meeting for the past two months, there's still nothing on the table.

HACSU nurse delegates have unanimously agreed to send a formal letter demanding an offer within two weeks, and if a fair and reasonable wages and conditions offer isn't forthcoming, they've resolved to commence industrial action.

While HACSU will continue to bargain in good faith, it's time nurses and midwives were treated with the respect and urgency they deserve.

In the news: HACSU State Secretary Robbie Moore and Delegate Emma spoke with media about the RHH Department of Medical Imaging being forced to rely on an ageing portable ultrasound machine, after finally retiring another unit that had been in use six years past its lifespan.

This unit produces lower quality images, is inappropriate for difficult/bariatric scans, and recently broke down for four days, which reduced services even further.

Patients deserve reliable scans, and workers deserve reliable equipment.

HACSU and CPSU Tasmania Child Safety and Youth Justice members in Hobart held a stop work member meeting today to discuss their concerns about ongoing agreement negotiations, particularly a proposed 40% reduction to the Child Safety Allowance.

This allowance plays a critical role in attracting and retaining the skilled workforce needed to keep children safe. At a time when the system is under significant strain, the government should be strengthening, not weakening, its ability to recruit and retain experienced staff, including support staff.

Minister Jo Palmer should immediately intervene to scrap the proposed allowance reduction and ensure we can attract the relevant staff needed for a well-functioning child safety and youth justice system.

HACSU nurse Diny joined the rest of your bargaining team at the table with government reps yesterday to progress talks on your replacement nurses and midwives' agreement, and once again, there was no offer on the table.

While our hospitals and mental health facilities are running close to constant overcapacity, and more is being asked of nurses every day, the government isn't matching that urgency when it comes to a fair and reasonable wage offer.

HACSU will keep fighting for the deal you deserve.
