DRILL

DRILL One of Australia’s leading youth dance companies, DRILL supports young people to create ambitious new works of contemporary dance for their community.

DRILL is Nipaluna/Hobart’s Youth Dance Company, where young people aged 9 to 25 take active roles as the makers of our performance work while promoting our key pillars of access, inclusion and diversity. Based in nipaluna/Hobart, we connect young Tasmanians with inspiring professional and emerging artists through our Junior and Senior Companies and schools-based programs. DRILL empowers the next g

eneration of leaders, thinkers, nurturers, and change-makers with a commitment to collaborative creative processes and peer to peer learning. Our works encourage young people to tell their stories, share their values, and voice their thoughts through performance and physical expression. We bring young people together to form a tight-knit community of peers, fostering a space for self-development and discovery built on trust and supported by kindness. DRILL’s Senior Company (ages 14-25) and Junior Company (ages 9-14) create and perform new work annually and we welcome people with and without dance experience. All DRILL programs have a strong commitment to and focus on the entire wellbeing of the young people involved.

We want to start off Term 3 by celebrating all our Horizon Project participants!

In Term 2, at our combined Performance Day, hosted by Montrose Bay High School, students from Glenorchy, Goodwood, Rosetta, and Windermere Primary alongside MBHS students joined forces to deliver 5 individual choreographic pieces for family, friends, and teachers. Parents and principals thrilled at the opportunity to witness the accomplishments of these students and an afternoon of smiles, chills and joy was experienced by all 😍

Students focused on collaboration, connection, and choreography during 9 workshops to co-devise a performance piece inspired by the theme ‘Living Webs’ where they spoke to the importance of our connection to each other, community, family and friends, and how building and growing that community leads to better decision-making and individual confidence. 💪

DRILL runs Horizon Project annually in Southern Lutruwita, supporting our students and young people into the next phase of education and nurturing skills they’ll use for the rest of their lives.

Want to have an impact? You can support this project, and others by becoming a donor or sponsor at https://drillperformance.com/support-drill. 🎁

Tassie Mums has won the MyState Foundation’s $25,000 Community Choice Award in Tasmania after topping a public vote against hundreds of nominees.

The one-off award marked the foundation’s 25-year anniversary and drew more than 370 nominations and 16,400 votes statewide.

MyState chief executive Brett Morgan said the result showed strong community support.

Tassie Mums founder Clair Harris said "every vote represents someone who believes that all children deserve comfort and the basics that many of us take for granted".

The charity will use the funding to reach more vulnerable young Tasmanians with essentials including clothing, nappies, cots, prams and school supplies.
