CanDo 4Kids

A helping hand for eyes and ears. We want children, young people and their families to live life focused on what they CAN do.

That’s why we formed in 1874: to provide support and services to children, young people and their families, who are blind, Deaf, have low vision, are hard of hearing, or have sensory needs. We work together to help them communicate better, connect easier, and live their best lives. Can:Do 4Kids, Townsend House also incorporates the Cora Barclay Listening and Spoken Language Program. Founded in 194

5 and formerly known as the Cora Barclay Centre, it is Australia’s oldest listening and spoken language service for children who are deaf or hearing impaired. We’re proudly South Australia’s oldest children’s charity, and while a lot has changed since our early days, one thing has remained the same: our can do attitude.

We were delighted to welcome Shadow Minister for Human Services, the Hon Michelle Lensink MLC, to our Hindmarsh office recently.

Head of Can:Do 4Kids, Holly Veale, highlighted the support we deliver for children with vision loss, are hard of hearing or have developmental needs.

It was wonderful to hear Michelle was impressed by our facilities and the passion of our team as we continue advocating for children and families in our community.

Born with a rare condition, balance and coordination haven’t come easily for Walter. But with support from Can:Do 4Kids, he’s now moving with confidence and playing alongside other kids –see him flying at his school sports day! 🏃‍

Yesterday we had a very special morning at Government House where we heard from four incredible children whose lives have been transformed through Can:Do 4Kids’ Listening and Spoken Language therapy.

From dreams of becoming builders, scientists and storytellers, to sharing talents in music and singing, Liam (6), Morgan ( 8 ), Max (10) and Amelia (12), showed what is possible with the right support.

Thank you to our patrons Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC and Mr Rod Bunten for hosting this meaningful event, and to everyone who supports us to create futures full of possibility for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

A big thank you to Ilijah and the incredible team at Nutrition Republic for opening their King William Road café on Christmas Day to support :Do4Kids 💙

By donating the cost of every coffee, they raised an amazing $1,092.45 in just one day! ☕✨

Last week we attended the Morialta Charitable Trust Grant Recipient Celebration, recognising initiatives supporting children and young people across South Australia.

Can:Do 4Kids are beyond grateful to be one of successful recipients in this years funding round which focused on strengthening support for children in the community. 🫶

The grant will enable Can:Do 4Kids to purchase a specialised program called "Hear Hub" which is a monitoring tool to help track the progress of children who are deaf or hard of hearing to ensure that our health professionals can respond to changes in access to a child's listening and spoken language progress and guide us on what next steps to take. This innovative approach will help create brighter futures for children with hearing loss. 🦻
