Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia - AHCWA

Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia - AHCWA AHCWA is the peak body for Aboriginal health in Western Australia. We work to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal people and their communities.

The Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia strives to strengthen and promote the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Sector Model of Care, and the delivery of comprehensive, holistic and culturally secure primary health care services; empowering Aboriginal people to achieve health equality in their communities. We exist to support and act on behalf of our 24 Member Services across the s

tate, offering support, advocacy and influence; building capacity, and actively responding to their individual and collective needs. Our vision is for Aboriginal people to enjoy the same level of health and wellbeing as all Western Australians, and we support and strengthen our Member Services to achieve excellence in the delivery of health care. AHCWA leads and influences the state and national Aboriginal policy agenda as determined by our Member Services and works to grow and advance the capacity and capability of AHCWA and our Member Services for long term sustainability. The organisation reserves the right to hide or remove comments that detract from constructive engagement. This includes comments containing offensive, abusive, or discriminatory language; those including misinformation or potentially harmful health advice; content that violates privacy or confidentiality; comments promoting commercial products or services; and spam or content irrelevant to the discussion. The Ngalla Bidi Bursary Fund connects Aboriginal medical students with culture, community, and global Indigenous knowledge.

With fewer than 600 Aboriginal doctors nationwide and 4000 needed for parity, this bursary is a vital step toward closing the gap in healthcare.

Supporting Aboriginal medical students at PRIDoC creates benefits that extend beyond individuals to Aboriginal patients, families, and communities across WA.

PRIDoC offers a life-changing opportunity for students to embrace global Aboriginal cultures, form lifelong friendships, and strengthen Indigenous-led healthcare.

Donations to the Ngalla Bidi Bursary Fund directly empower the next generation of Aboriginal doctors, ensuring culturally safe healthcare for Aboriginal people in Western Australia. To find out more or donate today, head to https://www.ahcwa.org.au/ngalla-bidi/

AHCWA and EarTrain recently partnered to deliver a series of ear health training workshops across four regions of Western Australia over a two-week period from May 4 to May 15 2026 . The workshops were held in the Great Southern, South West, Kimberley, and Metropolitan regions, with the aim of strengthening skills and knowledge in ear and hearing screening, assessment techniques, and interpretation to support continuity of care and improved service delivery within communities.

A total of 62 representatives from Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, government agencies, and non-government organisations attended the workshops. The training provided valuable opportunities for professional development, collaboration, and knowledge sharing among participants.

Feedback received from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with participants highlighting the practical and informative nature of the workshops and the relevance of the content to their roles. We thank everyone who attended and contributed to the success of these sessions, and we look forward to continuing to build workforce capacity in ear and hearing health across Western Australia.
