Earlier this week, the Wildlife Land Fund Ltd hosted team members from the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) at the Wildlife Queensland Head Office for the official handing over of the certificate that lists Weranga Scarps Nature Reserve as Australia’s first OECM Conserved Area.
We’d like to thank the DETSI team for coming along for a short ceremony to celebrate this milestone in our nation’s efforts to secure 30% of Australia’s landmass as protected or conserved areas by 2030.
Weranga Scarps holds a special place in our hearts, and we couldn’t be more pleased to see it inscribed so momentously in the history of conservation in this country. We know that the late Wayne Lawler, who bequeathed the property to WLFL, would have been incredibly proud to see his beloved Weranga Scarps honoured in this way and to know that a formal instrument is now in place to dedicate it to the preservation of Queensland's wildlife forever more, as well as to contribute to global biodiversity goals.
To get involved with the Wildlife Land Fund Ltd, or to consider leaving a similar legacy yourself, please visit our page and consider becoming a member (just $25 a year) or donating to the Fund. With your ongoing support, we can continue to secure more land for wildlife throughout the state. https://www.wildfund.org
