Did you spot one? 🦔

Nice work, enjoy the rest of the day off!

Echidnas are monotremes (egg-laying mammals). Females form a temporary pouch where they incubate typically a single egg and later carry their young, until it becomes a little too spiky.

Echidnas are pretty cool. ✨

At WQ, we are building baseline data on their distribution, monitoring their activity, and increasing community involvement in their conservation.

It’s , a global day to celebrate our incredible environment and take action to protect it.

At WQ, every day is an environment day. We’re protecting wildlife, influencing choices, and engaging communities across Queensland.

In the past year, your support made this possible:
✅ 14+ active conservation projects across Queensland
✅ 130+ hectares of critical habitat surveyed
✅ 6,700 hours of wildlife monitoring
✅ 15,000 hectares under invasive species control
✅ 500+ sites surveyed for species like platypus, lungfish and Mary River cod

Help us raise $100,000 by 30 June to keep this work going.

42 vines planted. One threatened species a little closer to recovery. 🦋

Our Projects Manager Matt spent two weekends out with local bush care groups, planting Birdwing Butterfly vines. With a brilliant crew of volunteers, we planted 42 new vines.

Here are some highlights from planting with Forest 4 Forestdale. The best surprise? Spotting a vine planted 13 years ago, now in the canopy, healthy, and thriving.

A huge shoutout to the Challenger family for baking delicious Richmond Birdwing butterfly-shaped cookies, which were the perfect fuel for a day of planting!

Thanks to everyone who showed up and got their hands dirty!

You can help too! Plant a Birdwing Butterfly vine in your garden and help save a threatened species. 🌱

Environmental DNA is revolutionising how we monitor aquatic life.

And so is our platypus expert Dr Tam - Platypus Protector!

She's been busy uncovering what lies beneath South East Queensland's rivers and creeks, building a clearer picture of the biodiversity hiding below the surface. 💧

Join us, Resilient Rivers SEQ, Noosa Council and Noosa and District Landcare for a community workshop where we'll share what we found and explore local biodiversity on a walk along your local creek.

Watch till the end… it happens to the best of us 😄

This little squirrel glider was caught on camera on one of the nest boxes we installed in collaboration with Logan City Council.

They were placed in greater glider habitat after a conservation detection dog found its s**t in the area.

These nest boxes support greater gliders and a range of other species, and are monitored by the council to track how wildlife is using them.

When it comes to biodiversity, Queensland really is the main character💅✨

We're Australia's most biodiverse state, home to the majority of the country's mammals, birds, reptiles and frogs, plus over 14,000 native plant species.

From reefs to rainforests, savannas to wetlands, our 13 terrestrial and 14 marine bioregions make Queensland one of the most extraordinary places on the planet.

Oh, we also have 5 UNESCO's World Heritage sites - Wet Tropics, Great Barrier Reef, K’gari and more.

We're not bragging (actually we are a little) 😉

Happy ! 🐝 Today we're celebrating Australia's tiny but mighty pollinators, keeping this continent thriving for millions of years.

Australia is home to over 2,000 bee species! They come in a stunning variety of shapes, sizes, and colours - from bees smaller than a grain of rice to giants the size of your thumbnail.

Our bees face growing threats from habitat loss, pesticides, and competition from introduced species like the European honey bees.

But there's plenty we can do to help – here are some simple actions you can take.

Spread the BUZZ 🍯

Surpriiiiiise🤗

WQ is out collecting temperature loggers from nest boxes, and the data is helping us tackle one of nature's quieter crises.

The loss of hollow-bearing trees has created a housing shortage for wildlife. More species competing for fewer hollows means threatened species are often getting pushed out by more common or invasive ones (like the European honey bees). 🐝

Partly this is just nature – hollows have always been shared between species over time, but habitat loss is amplifying that competition in ways that put vulnerable species at risk.

That's where the data comes in. By tracking temperature and humidity alongside other variables, we can identify which nest box designs and habitats best support threatened wildlife and help reduce competition from invasive species. 🌳

Did you know this is happening in our state?

To our incredible species found nowhere else on Earth.

This is devastating and unacceptable.

At WQ, we're calling on the government to strengthen laws that protect our forests and wildlife. We're restoring habitat, mapping populations, monitoring wildlife and installing nest boxes, which can never replace ancient tree hollows, but give these species their best chance to shelter and breed.

None of this would be possible without your support.

This end of financial year, help us protect what's left and bring back what's been lost.

💚 Donate today and be part of the solution.
