Newtown Swimming Club - The Friendly Club - was established in 1961 and is the oldest swimming club in the Toowoomba/Highfields area. The team from Newtown Swimming Club are well supported by the team at the Gail Walker Swim School and train at their indoor facility in Highfields. Newtown Swimming Club is one of 43 swim clubs registered with the Darling Downs Regional Swimming Association and prou
dly last year was ranked Number 1 club for the region. Our club currently has approximately 20 competitors at racing level and has representation at local, regional, state and national levels. We currently have a swimmer who holds SB5 50, 100 & 200m Mens’ and Age Australian Records and is destined for the 2020 Paralympics. Club nights are held every Friday night during swim club season (September to March) at the 25m indoor pool at the Mount Lofty Campus of Toowoomba State High School, we also have a BBQ every club night. Our club nights are fun, social and have races as short as 12.5 meters through to 800m to cater for all swimming levels. Additionally, there is a winter season which our competitive swimmers also participate in. The club has a history of stable administration which has promoted the development of a culture of friendly competition in a relaxed atmosphere with the emphasis on a healthy balance between participation and competitive swimming. Swimmers participating for school carnivals, general fitness and elite competition all have special individual needs and are equally important to the club. We believe that our activities are rewarding for both our swimmers and parents in an atmosphere of friendship, encouragement and co-operation. Newtown Swim Club encourages members of all ages and abilities and currently has members aged from 3 years of age through to 16.
