Hervey Bay City Musicians Hervey Bay City Musicians is a community based organisation established for the purpose of providing its members with the opportunity to enjoy playing music.

HBCM is run by volunteers, who manage and support the various groups under our umbrella. This includes a Concert Band, String Ensemble, Rock Ensemble. Other groups are formed as occasions arise – such as to accompany a visiting concert performer - or as musicians request it. HBCM itself is not involved in the direct tutoring of students on their instruments; rather, it aims to improve technical and musicianship skills through rehearsal, and performance. Within any particular group, there will be a range of technical and musicianship skills; all are equally encouraged to always play at their best. Repertoire, and its degree of difficulty, is chosen by the conductor to reflect the range of skills and interests within the group; conductors will also consciously be seeking a particular sound and style to create an appealing character and personality for their group.

ATTENTION ALL CLASSICAL MUSICIANS
On November 19th the Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra (Under the direction of Shaun Dorney) has been invited to play a concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of Anzac Park in Maryborough.
They are keen to have local musicians (students and adults) involved in the finale, Tchaikovsky’s ‘1812 Overture’. The commitment will involve a rehearsal and the gig.

This video, kindly shared by a member of our audience, is a good example of the excellent musical performance provided by members of our new Acoustic Folk group on their first public outing. I would value any video of the Rock Ensemble, that might be shared as well, if possible.
It was another beautiful Sunday in Hervey Bay demonstrating how perfect the Scarness Park stage is for this type of free community concert. Our thanks to Mayor George Seymour and the Events and Parks and Garden staff of Fraser Coast Regional Council for making this concert possible and for helping our not-for-profit community music group to be alive and thriving. We hope to be back on stage in early September!

Friends of HBCM please note that, due to the forecast wet weather, we have postponed the free concert in Scarness Park that we were planning for this Sunday. We are hoping to try again on Sunday 19th June.

We have a violin for our Acoustic Folk group, but we are still searching for a flute player. You only need to be able to play simple accompaniments behind the mainly vocal parts, but you can be guaranteed to have an hour of fun every week in our rehearsals.
