Duchess has had a huge first week in foster care, and this brave girl has taken every challenge in her stride. Her big groom took hours due to her weight and difficulty standing for long periods, but she absolutely excelled. Just look at her now, fresh, tidy, and feeling a whole lot more comfortable.
She has now visited our Vet, where we learned she is extremely overweight at 40.8kg. As a shorter Goldie, she needs to lose around 15kg to reach a healthy weight. Duchess also has a yeast infection in her ears, which is now being treated, and she has been diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. Losing the weight will make a world of difference to her mobility and comfort. While sadly it doesn't fix the HD, it can make a difference for her re movement etc.
We’re back at the Vet at the end of this week to recheck her ears and run blood tests to assess her liver and kidney function. This is important before she can safely start long‑term pain relief for her hips.
Despite everything she’s carrying, physically and emotionally, Duchess is already enjoying small daily walks, and on the weekend she even had a little play date with friends. Seeing her move, explore, and socialise has been such a delight. And honestly… doesn’t she look fab after her pawsome groom.
We’ll keep you updated later in the week with her progress. She’s now on excellent food, supplements, and all the nutrients she needs. It’s going to take time to get her back on track, but we can do it, because we have a Village behind us.
