Checking in with our lovely foster girl Duchess this week, and she’s doing alright. Her Vet visit brought some great news, her ear infection is almost cleared up, and her blood tests show her kidney and liver function are good. This means we can now safely start her on long‑term anti‑inflammatory support for her hip dysplasia, which will make such a difference to her comfort. And… pawsome news… Duchess has weighed in at 39.8kg, which means she’s lost 1kg in just 14 days. This girl is officially on track for a whole new life thanks to Labrador Rescue and everyone cheering her on. ❤🐾 ❤

Duchess has had a huge first week in foster care, and this brave girl has taken every challenge in her stride. Her big groom took hours due to her weight and difficulty standing for long periods, but she absolutely excelled. Just look at her now, fresh, tidy, and feeling a whole lot more comfortable.

She has now visited our Vet, where we learned she is extremely overweight at 40.8kg. As a shorter Goldie, she needs to lose around 15kg to reach a healthy weight. Duchess also has a yeast infection in her ears, which is now being treated, and she has been diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. Losing the weight will make a world of difference to her mobility and comfort. While sadly it doesn't fix the HD, it can make a difference for her re movement etc.

We’re back at the Vet at the end of this week to recheck her ears and run blood tests to assess her liver and kidney function. This is important before she can safely start long‑term pain relief for her hips.

Despite everything she’s carrying, physically and emotionally, Duchess is already enjoying small daily walks, and on the weekend she even had a little play date with friends. Seeing her move, explore, and socialise has been such a delight. And honestly… doesn’t she look fab after her pawsome groom.

We’ll keep you updated later in the week with her progress. She’s now on excellent food, supplements, and all the nutrients she needs. It’s going to take time to get her back on track, but we can do it, because we have a Village behind us.

Some of you will remember Ruby, surrendered to Golden Paws Rescue over six years ago, carrying too much weight and not much joy. She was a lovely but sad girl who needed a soft place to land.

Fast forward to today, and Ruby is living her absolute best life. She slimmed down, found her spark, and became the devoted companion of her foster mum, who fell in love and adopted her. Ruby has travelled, gone camping, made friends, and become the sweetest, quietest little shadow.

She’s nearly 11 now, adored by everyone, and truly the princess of her home.

Duchess is settling in beautifully, and this week she was pampered by the pawsome team at Wash Clip Groom. She looks and feels so much better already, just look at those freshly cleaned, neatly trimmed paws. What a difference a little TLC makes.

She’s also been very busy chomping away on a goat’s horn, doing her best to work off some of that tartar. Safe to say she’s enjoying every minute of it.

We popped her on the scales and she came in at 40.8kg, which is at least 12kg above her ideal weight. It’s going to take time, patience, and lots of gentle encouragement, but we’re committed to helping this lovely girl get healthy and comfortable again.

Duchess will be heading off to the vet shortly, and we’ll keep everyone updated on her progress as she continues her journey.

A huge thank you to Labrador Rescue for taking this sweet soul into care and giving her the second chance she deserves.

Our 3½‑year‑young GPR doggie Nalah was adopted just over a year ago and has absolutely thrived with her furever family. As you can see, cruising to the beach with her fur bro George, she’s one very happy girl and is truly luving her new life.

Great to see you again, Nalah - living the dream!!

Well, thanks to the help of awesome volunteers, Duchess has arrived at her foster home. To be honest, she is a little unsure, definitely clingy and wanting to bond with someone. She is extremely overweight and from feeling her belly gently, I believe she has had a few litters. Her feet/fur are in dreadful need of attention as are her nails. SHe is a lovely happy doggie, but clearly is striving for some type of real connection. She seems to want to sit in a tight corner, maybe she was caged if she was a breeder, we have no idea. But tonight her new journey with Labrador Rescue begins.

Duchess is on pain medication for her hips which will continue, we are waiting to confirm a vet appt for her, but our local groomer, Wash Clip Groom in Hervey Bay have reached out to us and offered to donate half of a groom for her, to get this lady nice and tidy, how pawsome is that!

We will keep you posted during the week of the next steps for Duchess. Sincere thanks to Jill and Al for the transport from the Gold Coast up to Hervey Bay, you ladies rock. Thanks to Jill's other half for being part of the team, we obviously could not have got her into a vehicle in her state without an extra helping hand.

If you would like to donate to Duchess, please remember that she has been surrendered to Labrador Rescue, I am just fostering.
