An impromptu neighbourly w**ding & edging effort sorted the Henley Beach Road pathway this morning. Give it a few weeks and we should see the beautiful verge flowers emerge after the pruning.

The Santos Tour Down Under will be spending some time here in Henley Beach (16-25 January 2926). Our locals are “leaning in”, getting ready to welcome visitors to our beautiful piece of South Australia. With that in mind… Come outside Henley Beachers and start working on your verges. The results make the effort worthwhile.

WOW Henley Beach! Greening Warriors across this beautiful diverse coastal area are making a huge difference.

The City of Charles Sturt holds an annual Spring Garden Celebration, with this year realising 5 local awards for the Henley Beach area. Congratulations to every single person involved in improving our environment. Our efforts are improving the landscape and living experience here.

We’ve still got a way to go to reach the green canopy goals across Adelaide. So…..
•Grab your spades, gum boots and gardening gloves.
•Harness your creativity to support a healthy environment and lifestyle.
•Get outside and start digging.

Thank you to our City of Charles Sturt horticulturists (Chris & Dwayne) for topping our Pioneer Park verge gardens with mulch. Collaborative efforts reap greater rewards in the green spaces. Today was an excellent example of Council working with Community. The mulching will reduce w**d growth, aid in water retention and promote growth. I’m already thinking about the next planting project!

Another new beetle in our Henley Beach garden. Potentially, a juvenile Red Jewel Bug (Choerocoris paganus) from Googling. Usually found in woodland areas.

As the seasons pass through, we’re noticing an increase in our gecko, skinks, butterflies, bees & beetle population. A total no-brainer …..
Cease the chemicals to improve environmental health!
Create habitat and the wildlife will come!

Calosoma schayeri (green carab beetle) noticed in our garden today. A beneficial beetle, native to Australia and living in the soil.

I’ve never seen one before, which may be explained by their nocturnal activity or possibly from us not using pesticides or herbicides. We’ve worked hard on having an organic approach to our gardening activities and it appears to have paid off. Each year we notice new insects in the area, some types haven’t been sighted here for decades, or longer.

Nearby Fulham Gardens is getting their verge on too. This patch was buzzing with bees in the sunshine. Too pretty to not stop & share the greening effort.

Our goal is to build green corridors across Greater Adelaide and throughout South Australia. The challenge is for us all to pick a patch to plant and nurture. Nature will repay your efforts endlessly. Come outside and have FUN with it. Share your photos with us too.
