Our rigorous testing of the collapsible trail tool continued at today’s HORCC working bee.

A Mammoth day of track maintenance today. Thanks to Chum, Dave E, Adrian V, Rachel and Spoona, Huw, Jarrod, Kalea and Ciaran. Special thanks to the local kids that asked if we were getting paid and offered to swap bikes for tools when we said we were volunteers.

Extra special thanks to Dave Mac who saved the day with the ride on lawn mower, cleaning up the grass up top.

Work will resume at 8am, Sun 15 March. If you’d like to help out, just turn up and say hi.

Thredbo Cannonball Mountain Bike Festival – HORCC Race Report

The 2026 Thredbo Cannonball Mountain Bike Festival delivered an amazing week of racing. Cooler temperatures and timely overnight rain settled the dust, added grip across key sections, and gave riders the confidence to push hard from the first gate drop to the last whistle.

HORCC arrived with a determined squad despite setbacks. Connor Mielke and Mark Krummer were cleared to race only one week prior, yet both produced solid performances. Practice was costly: Kalea Krummer went down and carried injury into racing, while U19 rider Max Thraves copped a stick to the chin that required six stitches. Even so, the team rallied and stacked up impressive results across every discipline.

Day 1 – All Mountain / Enduro

With moisture lingering in the dirt, the All Mountain stage opened in near ideal Thredbo conditions β€” firm, grippy and fast in the morning, drying as the day wore on.

Day 2 – Flow, Dual Slalom & Schralp Off

Overnight rain kept Flow running smoother and quicker than usual early in the week, before drying back into classic Thredbo rough. The evening Schralp Off amped up the crowd before the Dual Slalom, which brought out battles and razor thin margins.

Flow Results

Day 3 – Downhill Seeding & Pump Track

The earlier rain helped the DH track hold together longer than usual, but by seeding it was still pure Thredbo: square edges, deep holes, and full commitment speeds. Under lights, the Pump Track delivered some of the tightest racing of the week.

Day 4 – Downhill Finals & Invitational Whip Wars

Cool, stable temps helped the early finals runs and the track was running fast. Riders went all in to close out racing.

The festival then shifted to spectacle with Invitational Whip Wars β€” and this year two HORCC riders, Kalea Krummer and Daniel Scobie, were invited to send it. Both threw huge, stylish whips to massive cheers from the hillside crowd β€” a proud moment for the club.

HORCC Race Report – Thredbo Gravity Series Round 2: Cruiser Crusher
Round 2 of the Thredbo Gravity Seriesβ€”the iconic Cruiser Crusherβ€”took over Thredbo on 31 January 2026, sending riders from the top of the Cruiser Chairlift into the fast, unforgiving Paparazzi to Slayground course. The layout remained true to its reputation: short, intense, and offering zero rest as riders had to stay on the gas from start to finish.
Thredbo delivered its classic grassroots racing atmosphere with packed fields and plenty of energy as riders chased valuable points in the four round gravity series.
Conditions were brutal: hot, dry, and extremely dusty, with berms and corners deteriorating rapidly throughout the day. By the afternoon, deep dust pockets and blown out edges made line choice increasingly risky.
And because Thredbo always likes to add an extra challenge, everyones ankles were covered in welts from the March flies.
