There’s something about being around animals that can change the way we feel.

Animals don’t ask you to explain yourself.

They don’t care about your rank, your role, your past or what kind of day you’re having.

They simply meet you where you are.

Being around animals can encourage us to slow down, become more present and focus on what’s happening right in front of us.

There’s connection without the pressure of conversation and feedback without judgement.

At Horse Aid, our horses are a powerful part of that experience.

Working alongside a 600kg horse requires you to be present.

To notice body language.

To regulate your own energy.

To build trust and communicate clearly.

And when that horse begins to respond to you, follow you or choose to connect with you, it can be incredibly powerful.

For people who have spent years in high-pressure environments, always switched on and looking after others, those moments of quiet connection can mean a lot.

Sometimes healing starts without saying a word.

At Horse Aid, our programs are completely free for participants because accessing support shouldn’t come with another financial burden.

But free for participants doesn’t mean free to deliver.

It costs approximately $3,000 per person for Horse Aid to fund their place in our program covering the horses, facilitators, meals, accommodation, program resources and everything needed to provide a safe and supportive experience.

That’s where our incredible community comes in.

Every donation makes a difference. Whether it’s $10, $50, $100 or more, every contribution helps us continue providing these programs to serving and ex-serving Defence personnel and first responders living with service-related trauma.

And if you’d like to make an ongoing impact, we’d love to welcome more regular monthly donors. Even a small amount each month helps us plan ahead and fund more places for those who need them.

Tomorrow’s the day!

We’re all set and ready to welcome our participants for tomorrow’s Horse Aid One Day Intro Program.

The horses are ready, the team is ready, and we’re looking forward to a day of connection, learning and experiencing what Horse Aid is all about.

If you’re joining us tomorrow, there’s nothing you need to prove, no expectations and no horse experience required. Just come as you are and be open to the experience.

For some, tomorrow will be their very first introduction to working with horses. For others, it might be the beginning of something much bigger.

We can’t wait to welcome you.

Today, on Vietnam Veterans’ Day, we pause to honour and remember the Australians who served during the Vietnam War.

We acknowledge their courage, sacrifice and service and remember those who did not return home, those who returned forever changed by their experiences, and the families who stood beside them.

At Horse Aid, we understand that the impacts of service can continue long after the uniform comes off.

We are proud to stand alongside veterans and create a place for connection, understanding and support.

Today, we say thank you to our Vietnam veterans.

For your service.

For your sacrifice.

For all that you carried home.
