Congratulations to Kahiya Ali
SACOV proudly extends its heartfelt congratulations to Kahiya Ali and his family on this remarkable achievement.
Today marks a significant milestone as Kahiya is officially sworn in as a Constable with Victoria Police. This accomplishment comes nearly two and a half years after he first began his journey as a Protective Services Officer. While that was already a proud moment, today represents an even greater achievement—Kahiya has now progressed to become a full member of Victoria Police.
This is a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and commitment to serving the community.
We believe Kahiya’s success will inspire many young people, particularly within our community, to consider a meaningful career with Victoria Police and contribute positively to society.
Well done, Kahiya. We wish you continued success and a fulfilling career ahead.

IN MEMORY OF HALIMO MOHAMUD (HALIMO KARAAN)
Halimo Mohamud (Halimo Karaan) was one of the great female leaders of the Somali community. She was a highly respected figure, a trusted adviser, and a wise woman who stood firmly with her community during difficult times. She played a vital role when banks stopped allowing Somali money transfer companies to remit funds. As a committee member of the Remittance Advisory Group, she travelled to Canberra to advocate and engage with the government on this critical issue. Halimo also supported the Somali Medical Mission, helping to organise and send essential medicines to Somalia. During the tragic 14 October bombing in Mogadishu, she actively participated in fundraising efforts to support the victims and their families. She was a passionate supporter of strengthening the voice of the Somali community in Victoria and across Australia. Her dedication, leadership, and compassion have left a lasting legacy. We miss you deeply.

HALIMO MOHAMUD (HALIMO KARAAN)
Halimo Mohamud (Halimo Karaan) waxay ka mid ahayd haweenkii hormuudka u ahaa bulshada Soomaaliyeed. Waxay ahayd qof si weyn loo ixtiraamo, lataliye lagu kalsoon yahay, iyo haweeney xikmad badan oo si adag garab ugu istaagi jirtay bulshada xilliyada adag.
Waxay door muhiim ah ka qaadatay markii bangiyadu joojiyeen in ay u oggolaadaan shirkadaha xawaaladaha Soomaaliyeed inay diraan lacagaha. Iyadoo ka mid ahayd guddiga Remittance Advisory Group, waxay u safartay Canberra si ay dowladda ula hadasho uguna dooddo arrintan muhiimka ah.
Halimo sidoo kale waxay taageertay Hawlgalka Caafimaadka Soomaaliyeed (Somali Medical Mission), iyadoo ka qayb qaadatay abaabulka iyo dirista dawooyin muhiim ah oo loo qaaday Soomaaliya. Intii lagu jiray qaraxii naxdinta lahaa ee 14 Oktoobar ka dhacay Muqdisho, waxay si firfircoon uga qayb qaadatay ururinta dhaqaale loogu gurmanayo dhibbanayaasha iyo qoysaskooda.
Waxay ahayd qof si weyn u taageersan xoojinta codka iyo matalaadda bulshada Soomaaliyeed ee Victoria iyo guud ahaan Australia. Dadaalkeeda, hoggaankeeda, iyo naxariisteeda waxay reebeen dhaxal waara.
Aad ayaan kuu tabaynaa.

STATEMENT CONDEMNING THE BONDI JUNCTION SHOOTING AND EXPRESSING SOLIDARITY WITH THE VICTIMS

The Somali Australian Council of Victoria (SACOV) strongly condemns the tragic and senseless act of violence that occurred at Bondi Junction. We are deeply saddened by the loss of innocent lives and the injuries sustained by many members of the community during this horrific incident.

On behalf of the Somali Australian community in Victoria, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, and loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are also with those who were injured and traumatised, as well as with the broader community affected by this devastating event.

Violence in any form has no place in our society. Acts such as this undermine the values of peace, safety, and mutual respect that unite us as Australians. We stand firmly against all forms of violence and reaffirm our commitment to promoting harmony, understanding, and community cohesion.

During this time of grief, SACOV stands in full solidarity with the people of New South Wales and all Australians. We commend the bravery of first responders, medical staff, and community members who acted swiftly and courageously to protect lives.

We call on all communities to come together in compassion and unity, to support one another, and to honour the victims by strengthening our collective resolve for peace and safety.

May the victims rest in peace, and may their families find strength, comfort, and healing during this difficult time.
