Speaking of Sustainability Toastmasters Club is not meeting anymore. You can check out Northern Exposure Toastmasters which meet on the first and third Wednesday of the month. The club meets at the Preston Library and offers online participation via Zoom.
Check out Nillumbik Toastmaster which meets on the second and fourth Wednesday each months at the Watsonia Community Hall Lambourne Road Watsonia.

I have signed up for 1000 min walking challenge with Austin Health. Part is to raise money for the Hospital and part is to improve my health. Have recorded my first 3 day walking already. Managed to get 150 min of walking so far but quite a bit more to do.

Good afternoon Members,
Today I would like to provide you with some updates and excitement.
On our last meeting on the 19 October we had 4 members present. There where 3 speakers Nick talking "about me" using a PowerPoint presentation with pictures to explain
Michael "Staycation" explaining the daily life on vacation in lockdown
Emmi "Storm of Life" presenting some stories from her life and the impact it had on her
Michael and Emmi practiced for the upcoming Area Contest on 23 October.
Table Topics were present in a round robin style every member asked a question and every member answered a question.
John as Toastmaster was busy with timing, evaluation and moving the meeting with confidence and style.

On the 23 Oct John, Michael and I participated in the E17Area Contest via Zoom all day. John participated in all four contests and achieved second place in the International Contest, second place in the Evaluation and Table Topics contest.
Michael participated in the Humorous contest achieving second place.
I participated in the International Contest taking out third place, and participated in the Evaluation and Table Topics contest but did not place.
It was a long and fun day with a speaker from Epping Toastmaster Paul taking out all four Contest as first place and will represent E17 in the Eastern Division Contest in Feb or March next year.
The Eastern Division has five Area's so only one speaker goes forward.
Our next meeting is next Tuesday, yes it is Melbourne Cup day and if you are free to join for a few hours with a bit of fun and laughter. The meeting will be online so no need to leave the house.
I hope I see you all next Tuesday at the meeting.

Update from last meeting.
Thank you for attending our Zoom Meeting on Tuesday 20 July as we are still in lockdown mode for the fifth time since COVID-19 hit our shores last year in late January.
It was a fun meeting with Margaret opening the meeting with her fair and encouragement and acknowledging the owners of this land we live one.

Mary our Toastmastmaster for the night gave excellent comments and used her personal touch to the meeting. Word of the day was presented by John
"Plethora". Yes there where a lot of Plethora words used but the word of the day took a backstage
Michael presents his eighth Icebreaker explaining his journey on learning his leadership development using his own Leadership style. Emmi presents a story on "Just talk about it" which needs a bit of work as per feedback from John.
It slipped my mind to record the Table Topic speakers, we had five speakers and everyone had a little story to tell. My topic was: 'When you look into the past, what do you miss the most!'
Our guest Sandy evaluated Michael's speech with engaging comments.
Present at the meeting were 5 members and Sandy as guest.
Overall a fun and engaging meeting with lots of information sharing. Hopefully next time we can meet in person again at the Club Rooms.

Our last meeting of the toastmaster year was again in hybrid mode. Here’s a wrap-up for those unable to attend.

After welcoming two visitors, Sandy and Aous, toastmaster John asked us to consider what is freedom? The prepared speeches included an icebreaker from Barbara that explored new interests in education and Emmi provided a speech reviewing her experiences as a facilitator for COT online training. This is timely given that our next round of training has started for 2021/22 club officers (https://d73.toastmasters.org.au/events_calendar/). John evaluated the speeches offering suggestions for vocal variety and providing a memorable conclusion. Our table topics master Nick challenged us in the role of President delivering sometimes difficult messages, including a declaration of war by Nishanathe, and some responses had a humorous edge. Emmi provided feedback for the speakers on how their speeches could be enhanced. Sandy, an experienced toastmaster, provided the general evaluation of the meeting. Chairman’s choice award recipient was John who has been outstanding over the last year in assisting the club through the technical challenges of online and hybrid meetings. A fabulous evening.

Tuesday evening we had our hybrid meeting with Toastmaster Nick online while others meeting in person were able to enjoy the chocolate biscuits for supper! Here’s a wrap-up for those unable to attend.

Robert H was present in an official E17 Area Director capacity and presented DTM (distinguished toastmaster) awards to John and Michael and triple crown pins (3 or more goals achieved in the same year) to John and Emmi. Congratulations to these dedicated toastmasters. Nick twisted the TBA theme for the round robin with some interesting responses regarding our future plans. There were 3 very different prepared speeches, all exceeding limits according to our diligent timer Mary. John discussed effective communication regarding sustainability science for a broad audience. Margaret delicately tackled the humorous subject of flatulence involving cows, dogs and candles in her speech. Nishanathe challenged us to consider whether our actions are based on fear of loss and concluded with an original poem. The table topics further explored aspects of sustainability. Michael and Barbara provided comprehensive evaluations for the speakers, and other reports were provided by Robert H (grammarian), Emmi (Ah counter) and finally Robert H evaluated the meeting as a whole. In the closing, Nishanathe was voted in as our next club secretary. Welcome to the team! The chairman’s choice award recipient was Nick with a sterling effort as virtual toastmaster. A fabulous evening.

We started the 2021 year in hybrid mode with an enthusiastic group. Thanks to John for facilitating excellent sound quality and camera set-up that helped the cohesion between the real and virtual spaces. Here’s a wrap-up for tonight’s meeting.

Our first toastmaster of the year was Michael our roadie of the night in black. Margaret’s word adjustment was highly relevant and well utilised. Robert H asked the tough covid questions. Barbara supported the lockdown of tennis players, Michael spoke up for the cyclists of Melbourne and Nick reflected a year on from Canada. Nishanathe enjoys cooking (Dal Vada?), Margaret expressed her support for closed international borders to protect the vulnerable from the new virulent strands of covid and Emmi had solutions for the fruit pickers shortage encouraging us to embrace our inner farmer. The prepared speeches were by Barbara about changes in 2021 (pathways docs attached), and John rehearsed his international speech. Evaluators were Nick, John who evaluated all the table topics responses, and everyone for evaluating John! Nick was also kept busy with the red lights (oops). Michael provided a thorough general evaluation. Chairman’s choice was awarded to John. Another fabulous evening.

Today we had the E17 Area Contest Speech Contest organised by E17 Area Director Robert H. It started with the International Speech Contest at 9:30 AM. John did participate with his speech: "Hands full of Delvana".
Next Contest was Evaluation and we hear a speech out space and 4 inspiring evaluations. After lunch it was Table Topics and the question to answer in 1 to 2 min was: "What do you love most about yourself?" Another stellar performance from 4 speaker, the last and best was keep to the end with Humorous Speech Contest. If you like to learn what Frogs say you need ask John as he was talking with different frogs in there language.

It was a fun day and it was a shame we could not hear the audiences laughter but on the faces you could see the reactions during the Humorous contest.

On Tuesday night’s we had our the first pair of club contests. Here’s a wrap-up for those that weren’t able to join us…

Our contest chair was Mary who accepted the new challenge of online contests. The organisation was supported by Nick as zoom master arranging the break-outs for contestants and judges, Emmi (welcome back) as timer and Barbara was counter/usher. Maddie stepped into the role of SAA to open the meeting. The contestants were Margaret, Holly (TT only), Michael and John who did their best to make us laugh and describe their big event after covid.
